Loved the review. It really got me hooked. The bands you named off at the end convinced me to give it a listen since I enjoy all of them.

will not give it 5 because of the first cd! if they packed this one without the first cd, id probably give it a five. but the first one its not a 5 piece, its more like a 4.

Eorchean is the only track I'd listen to multiple times on the first disk, and a couple of the 8 minute songs on the second disk have some pretty cool ideas.

over all though, I find this pretty sloppy and boring songwritting...they deffinitely have potential, but with them having like 20 people in the band, it's inevitable that some of those people will introduce some terrible and silly ideas.

so...at times I really enjoyed this and other times Iwas like, "what the hell was that?" and "WHY the hell was that?"

they also go way overboard on the Cello/violin on disk 2.

I'd recommend Transmission0 for anybody who likes this band though...same kind of industrial, heavy metallic guitar tones...they just broke up, but they've written some sweet music.

I think Colddamnation was looking for a pure metal band which definately not what I want from The Ocean but that's not that point. It's just not what this band is. There are plenty of band who are however so if you don't like violins/cellos and are in it just for the thrash then there plenty bands who'd happily fill that void.

Orosirian's deffinitely got the best hardcore influence...probably my favorite.

Neoarchean really really sounds like an Iron Maiden song in the beginning.

don't get me wrong, I love cellos and crap, but only as a complementary instrument on a song or two at the most.

the thrash element is deffinitely not what appeals to me...if they had a deeper atmosphere and allowed their songs to build smoothly, with more coherent transitions, I'd enjoy them a good bit more.

However, that's why there's Isis, so I won't complain too much.

it's a general fact that the more people you have in on a project the more ideas will conflict and the less the music will flow naturally (Take Isis, Tides or North...they know exactly where they want to go with the music and have been playing together long enough to take it there in their own time).

but what with three guitarists, three bassists, and about 7 dudes on vocal duties, it seems rather forced together at times.

They do have their good moments though, they just don't really fit sometimes...Aka Colors
