I used to like this cd. Then I discovered better music. Now I don't like Linkin Park :thumb:
| | | Im a closet Linkin Park fan. :upset:
I really liked this album aliot when it came out.
| | |
There's a simple solution for the overplaying of In the End. If you hear a song you like, stop listening to the radio, then and there. I still like In the End alright b/c I never listen to the radio. Oh, and I'll agree with you on A Place for My Head. It's probably the greatest song on here.
Anyway, a very solid 4/5.
...It's not just the radio...everyone in the mainstream media was using this song...it was played on TV for various events, it was played at bowling alleys...it was everywhere...ugh...it's not a BAD song, but too much of a good thing = bad.
I will agree with Subtle on Points of Authority...I've always hated the way they arranged that song...it feels odd, and not in a good way...Crawling is my second favorite off the album as it seems more emotional/put together than the rest of their songs...
| | | Now this was the time I DID like Linkin Park. I thought LP sounded great off this album with songs like Runaway and One Step Closer, but I quickly grew out of this material cause of the excessive radio play. Then when Meteora come along that just made the whole radio world worse for me. Back on subject, at one time these songs were great to me and occasionally I like listening to a few of them every once in awhile. This is Linkin Parks great starter-off album to what I once called a great band. I give it a 4/5.
| | | I love this CD. From the minute I heard One Step Closer on a commercial for their album I was hooked. I downloaded the song back in the good ol' days of Napster and played it repeatedly for like 2 or 3 hours. I love EVERY song on this CD and still do to this day. 5/5 for sure.
| | | I never liked the album nor the group, the problem with their music is that it's not exciting and it's very predictable. I basically know what's going to happen in every song so that really turns me away from their music. Well I also don't like their sound, but that's anouther story.

True that. Every song follows a formula. They have their melodic angsty verse, which is followed by a pre-chorus where they intersperse rapping and singing and then the chorus and scratchy melody on the vocals with the occasional rap in the background. Then there is a repeat and a nu-metal breakdown where they just yell. The other skeleton structure they use is when they inverse the process and have the rap be the verse. Check it out. It's all they do.
| | | LP's music is formulaic, soulless, and above all terrible. When I first heard "In The End" on the radio I knew this was a band I needed to stay far away from.
| | | Well I know u're not gunna like this, but Linkin Park is the worst group thats putted in numetal and I dont think that it is supposed to buy for children over 12 years, so they can think that they listen to numetal and they are very hardcore! These songs are really stupid, I must say I really hate this group, maybe just cause they are played everywhere...
| | | ill admit, i listened to that first Linkin Park cd, and it was ok that first time i listened to it, but then they played it over and over again, talking about how good it was, and it was okay, but that was it. Now i hate that cd so much, and i hate linkin park, they made one cd that was okay and then stoped trying. How in hell did they get so **** popular, they suck....

This is what happens when you do drugs, people. You forget how to type in proper English. Correct punctuation, correct spelling, correct grammar...all gone out the window because you decided to toke up a few times. Drugs = Bad
...And if the sarcasm flew over your insignificant heads...learn how to type properly
| | | i used to like them...when i was 10.....then i listened to actual good music like radiohead ....linkin park are just to pop for my liking and there singer is such a sissy its laughable

That is so true! I've always thought that without being able to articulate it.
Anyway, Great review, regardless of whether or not I actually like the album.
I am one of those rare individuals who does not Hate or love linkin park. I am closer to hating, but I can listen to a few songs without barfing. Pushes me away is the only song I actually like. I used to like linkin park more, but after seeing the guitarist in my band play some of their stuff (we were *going* to cover in the end), I realized that they have less talent than the backstreet boys. *shudders*

You know, I really wish idiots like you would stop this whole "they have no talent LOL" kind of attitude
First off, every single musical artist, regardless of genre has some talent. Just because you don't like the music, or the band, or artist, does not mean they are talentless. The Backstreet Boys, while teeny-bopper pop at it's finest, can sing. Do you know how hard it is to sound good while singing? I don't sing, because I suck at it. Those guys, while they may not make music you like, and may not play instruments, can sing pretty well. That's talent. Even Milli Vanilli had talent...they lip-synced well enough to fool millions of people, and won a Grammy for doing so (or something like that). That's still talent, although it's a stretch.
Now, in terms of Linkin Park...Phoenix has like zero talent, he's the weakest link. Not that it matters, because most nu metal bands don't give a crap about bass. Delson may not be shredding or churning out great guitar lines, but some of them aren't bad. I direct you to Papercut, One Step Closer, A Place For My Head, With You, on this album. Chester and Mike, again, can sing. Whether or not you like the sounds of their vocals is irrelevant, they can both sing. I actually enjoy Mike's rapping...far better than that of, say, old Papa Roach, or any Limp Bizkit. Despite all the hatred for rap on the boards, when done right, it's pretty good. Rob and Joe, however, I think are quite talented for what they do. Yes, there are far more talented people than both of them, but in the scope of Linkin Park
Phoenix < Brad < Chester/Mike < Joe/Rob
This whole 'talentless' crap has really got to go. Not just about Linkin Park. Anyone who can play an instrument, or sing, or work the turntables well enough to gain themselves a music career are talented, regardless of whether or not you like the music. I hate guys like Nelly and Sean Paul, but they are still talented at what they do, without a shadow of a doubt.
/me gets off soapbox
| | | ^Very, very well said.
This was a very good album. LP was actually focused on making rock music on this album which they did pretty good. With Meteora, they began focusing on electronic stuff more, which was crap. "By Myself" has to be my favorite song off the album, followed by "Papercut."
| | | First of all, the guy that talked about talent; great job. Couldn't have said it better. Otherwise, bad things about this cd. I thought Points of Authority sucked. It and Cure for the Itch had to have been put on this album to just let Joe Hahn play around with his turntables. I think that Brad has the potential to write some guitar solos, but he didn't. This album was incredibly overplayed; I can't listen to In the End anymore. Good things about the album. This is the best mix of rap and rock that I have heard yet. Chester is the only vocalist that I like to hear scream. I don't even like to hear James Hetfield scream, and Metallica is my favorite band ever! Also, I usually don't like rap, but Mike isn't bad. This album gets a 4.25/5.
| | | The reviewer mentions how people complain about Chester writing lyrics like this when their all 'rich' etc, maybe you should see if money can make better child abuse, why dont you see if giving a rape victim a £1,000,000 would make the trauma and memories fade.
Heh, 'linkin park sux' okay, whatever my friends.. If you cant relate to it, fair enough, just dont talk **** about what you would never understand..
To whoever said 'Brad has the potential to write solo's' where do you see some fat arse awesome solo in nu-metal songs huh?... = /
Its the same with Korn, if you relate to it, you like it.
You know, it dosent NEED to be the most technically written, lyrical masterpice to be something thats listenable...
| | | That was a nice "talent theory" right there. Its just weak on some points. Like "every person with a musical career nevermind the genre has talent". That is untrue. When "talent" is mentioned it means something above average, and most mainstream music nowadays is average and below. Any one who can sing correctly(not sing false notes) does not mean that he/she has "talent" to be a good singer. The music industry machine just picks up bands and sells them, nevermind how talented they are. Nu-metal was the **** a few years back and almost everybody sounded nu-metalish(LP, Limp Bizkit, Korn, Staind, Static-X, Deftones, Disturbed, Adema, etc, etc.). Pop-punk/emo/screamo is the **** now and everybody does that. I personally prefer nu-metal to pop-punk and emo because at least it produced some memorable cool riffs to play(like down with the sickness... ) The music scene now...ahhh....awful. On that note, LP do IMO have talent and I very much enjoyed them when they first came out, but there is better music out there. And the nu-metal bands that I like will hopefully return with new kickass material (go SOAD, Deftones).
| | | Good album.
4/5 :thumb:
| | | Linkin Park was overplayed on the radio for a reason. This album is still a favorite of mine even after all this time. Meteora was a big dissapointment for me, but I'm not really surprised as its hard to follow up an outstanding album like this.
