I just got this, and it's a pretty sweet album. Imperium is GOD. It's like Pantera-style groove metal, but with a fuller sound. The rest of the album doesnt' seem quite up to that standard, but it's still pretty damn good.

One of machine head best song ever is on this album : it's "descend the shades of night". The rest of the album is not really unforgivable.

Descend The Shades of Night is definitely the best song. I think I read that it was an extra song that was only on U.S. versions of the album.

^^^Indeed that was one of the best songs off this album. This was not the extra song that was thrown on the U.S. version. That song was called 'Seasons Wither'.

Starts great, ends great, leaves a lot to be desired in between. I rarely listen to this nowadays.

I find this album drops off a little around the end. 'Vim' and 'Seasons Wither' are great middle tracks.

I'm a huge MH fan, but i must say, you have pretty much summed up my opinion of this album in your review.

To quote you.

"And then Imperium blessed my ears. A great song. Unlike other Machine Head songs, this was pure metal. Groovy riffs, fast metal drumming. Simply put, an awesome track.

But alas, the rest of the album, the so hailed come back, does not compare to the opening track."

This was the first Machine head album I owned, got it as a new release. I was big into Nu Metal then so naturally I thought it was awesome. Still an okay listen every now and then.

I like the album a lot but In The Prescence of My Enemies gets nowhere near the recognition it deserves imo.

This is basically nu-metal pantera with an awesome dark vibe.

Some excellent moments. A few less so. On the whole though well worth the investment as there is a lot like here.

I would do anything to see some of the songs on this album live. Left Unfinished, Vim, or my personal favourite, In the presence of my enemies!
