I've yet to hear another rap duo play off each other in the way Mos and Kweli do it here. Their chemistry is fantastic.

It's a shame neither of these guys ever managed to replicate how good this is, in their solo careers.

Well, no, but at least come close, the nearest is Black On Both Sides, but that's still pretty hit and miss imo.

I actually like BOBS equally if not more. It's a bit too long but pretty ambitious and versatile. The Ecstatic is great too.

'Quality' is underrated, I think. Maybe not as good as this, but still worthy of mention.

This is indeed the best they've both been in their a careers. Kweli comes pretty close to this on Train of Thought, and Mos on Ecstatic, but this is still better.
A fucking classic my friends

Mos Def's verse on 'Thieves In the Night' might be my favourite lyrics ever. I was listening to hardly any hip hop for ages, and then I came across that song and some of his solo stuff and it just blew my mind.
Likewise with ATCQ but for slightly different reasons, and more recently, GZA.

I spun this about 6 months ago and it didn't live up to the hype, I'll give it another spin soon though, it sound like something I'd enjoy.

Black Star is my number 2 hip-hop album ever. Mos and Kweli were so on top of their game, and the production was just incredible.

I love this album, and I'm pretty sure P.O.D. stole the chorus from RE:Defenition in their song Execute the Sounds:

Black Star: "1,2,3, Mos Def and Talib Kweli
We came to rock it on to the tip-top
Best alliance in hip-hop, wayohh"
P.O.D.: "It goes 1,2,3. The crew is called P.O.D.
And if you wanna go to the tip top
Break it down, with that one drop - Whyoo"
