just bought this. the only weak song is The Enemy Are the Future... everything else is pure gold, especially Focker and Broken. problem is... now all the other electronic indie rock albums pale in comparison.
anyway great review. hope this band gets huge.

Me too, they deserve it. I thought they were releasing a follow up this year but then I heard somewhere that they'd split up :-(

Has the nu-rave fad already run its course, because this hyped British band has disappeared & The Klaxons haven’t released a follow-up as yet? This is one hell of a hyperactive LP and is pretty good for what it is. There are a heap of fantastic musical ideas littered all over it, whether they be a bass-line, a beat, a riff or a melody. But it is messy & hardly ever results in a cohesive song. The vocals & lyrics aren’t exactly great either. Definitely reminiscent of The Klaxons debut LP, it may be a little more consistent than that, but lacks the standout songs of their counterparts. The closest are Bathroom Gurgle, Heartbeat & Space and the Woods.

I disagree at every point. This album needs several listenings to appreciate the quite elaborately structured songs. But once you're into it, this seemingly messy album is turning out to be an highly original and enjoyable one. It's the same with the already mentioned song "The Enemy are the Future" which is the least accessible track of the album (but still is a great one). IMHO every track stands out and I love the witty, intentionally trashy lyrics that also makes a nice contrast to several other indie bands, who take themselves way too serious nowadays.
That's said, Fantasy Black Channel is one of the most underrated indie albums! I would even go that far to say in a highly elitist manner, that this album was simply too good for the scenester crowd!

Trust me, I have given it a lot of listens... Basically between when Ross reviewed it & now. To each their own though & I can definitely understand why many people really really dig this. Just not my sort of thing I guess.

yes same. such a shame they never recorded a follow up, and that their drummer passed away
they could have been quite big with the right support. klaxons managed to do really well around the same time and they werent as good as these guys (but were more marketable)
