"advisor at my work really dug this, will be getting soon" It will be interesting to see what you think Rudy, as I wouldn't have thought this would be for you.

"Great review, got me interested. Sounds like these guys could become The Feeling of 2009" Thanks Masochist. And you may need to elaborate on The Feeling comparison as they aren't too much like them in sound. Don't get mislead by the poppiness of 'Dominos' if that is what you are referring to.

"Anyone catch the visual irony of the comparison between this band (The Big Pink) and the album 'Loveless'?" Haha, noooo. Surely there is no link to 'Loveless' in any way at all.

By "The Feeling of 2009," I meant that they're a band that's becoming popular in England (and only in England, for some reason), but that still generate a lot of hate.

Hey. You reviewed something I want to check out. My buddies in hell must be enjoying the snow

Agreed. How do you do it, Davey?

Perhaps you know this, Davey, but how are the albums in the "Members Also Liked" chosen? Is it based on the highly-rated albums of the same genre, or the users that comment on the list?

I think it has to do with the similar artists on the artists' page.

"By "The Feeling of 2009," I meant that they're a band that's becoming popular in England (and only in England, for some reason), but that still generate a lot of hate." Interesting analogy Masochist... & one I really can't argue with I guess. The only thing I will mention though is that it may be a little too early to call their worldwide success. There's hardly been any promotion of them down under & I'm guessing it's the same in the States.

"well i'm a big fan of about half of the recs you put up there so i'm suitably intrigued. don't presume to know the innermost regions of my musical tongue davis" Touche. It wasn't meant to be a put down Rudy. I'm the last person to do anything like that for those that lean towards the mainstream.

"Agreed. How do you do it, Davey?" Being open to testing my reviewing capabilities I guess. Next up: METAL! Haha. Just kidding.

"Perhaps you know this, Davey, but how are the albums in the "Members Also Liked" chosen?" Wouldn't have the foggiest & I always ignore them (apart from the occasional laugh). It's something to do with bands in the genres of the users who have rated the album, I think.

i know davis, i know. it's unfortunate that my reviews are slanted towards pop music when my favorite bands are decidedly out of the mainstream. but hey, nothing gets better press (on sputnik, at least) than the latest miley cyrus bahaha

getting this album now

Yeah, it's all a balance. If there is a spot to review a few more pop albums than usual, then why not. I know that I will most likely have to do so to some extent now that I am on staff. That doesn't bother me too much.

Of course, that has to be balanced with listening to & then reviewing albums by bands we actually prefer.

Ooh, you're keen... & you're not even British! I will eagerly await your opinion Trey.

In fact, I'm interested as to what most of the staff members will think. So far, my insinuated prediction of a ratings chart all over the place is not coming to fruition at all! 3 votes may not be enough for a legitimate sample though.

Pitchfork just rated this album 8.2 out of 10.

I thought they would either like it a lot OR hate it a lot.

I finally had a chance to listen to this a few times, and it is probably the best recommendation I've received from you. The beats and the different effects are awesome. So is the overall atmosphere. I have a recommendation for a band that is similar to this (but more upbeat):

Chapterhouse - Blood Music

It looks like they may have forgot to feature this (I know they said they'd stagger it to the end of the week). It kind of sucks because this could appeal to quite a few here.

Good review of course. I (surpisingly) love Dominoes so I'll probably be getting and rating this soon. Of course I'll let you know what I think when that happens.

Wow Trey, a 4.5! I wasn't expecting that from you. Although, I did think some members of staff would really like this.

I'm unsure if you noticed, but I actually recommended a Chapterhouse album in relation to this. Not the exact one you did though.

As for why it hasn't been featured, I have no idea. I have asked twice, so there's no point me pushing the point further. Like you said, I thought this album would go over very well with many Sputnikers. Still time I guess...

So Ross... I see you've settled on a 3. Too inaccessible or something else you didn't like?

I don't know it did all seem a bit overdone at times, and the poppiness that I liked in Dominoes is definately kept to a minimum throughout the album. That 3 is just a provisional rating really, it could go up, probably not down. We'll see, it strikes me as an album that you have to pay 100% attention to as there is quite a lot going on.

All fair comments. In fact, they're all pretty dead on really. From memory, my initial thoughts was a 3-3.5, but it consolidated into a genuine 3.5 after I gave it a more thorough going over. There is definitely a lot going on.

Yeah. This album surprised me too. I actually like it for all the reasons MutatedFreak only gave it a 3. This band also kind of reminds me ok Kill Hannah (only a little, though).

Kill Hannah? I presume you are talking about their earlier stuff that I have not heard, because I don't see a great deal of similarities betwen this and say 'Lips Like Morphine'.
