So it should

still sucks

It was a good review, you just made some rather annoying statements like how its a strong contender for album of the year.
No
Just, no.

I pos'd. Good review. After seeing the 5 rating I fully expected some fanboy rant. Glad to see I was wrong. I've heard both Know Your Enemy and 21 Guns and hated both of them so I won't bother with this.
Quick question for everyone though: What exactly is a "rock opera"? Is it any different than a concept album? (I am aware concept albums don't have to be stories.)
|
| |
Rock opera specifically tells a story within the album, whereas a concept album can just have an overall mood or theme and/or a story
|
| |
Albums with filler aren't 5's, this album sucks, and how do you admirably divide things?

Green Day is what, like a 3 at the VERY most?
|
| |
Album Rating: 2.5
Green Day has at least 3 albums that could be rated over "4", but this isn't one of them. Maybe if the song list was cut down by 5 or 6 songs it would have been a lot better.
Your review is very well written for a newcomer to the site, but it is a definite stretch to rate this a classic. And that is coming from a long time dedicated Green Day fan since the age of 7. I do hope to read more from you in the near future and welcome to the site.

What's wrong with this album is that without even listening to it, it reeks of an attempted cloning of American Idiot

Ok here we go...
The theme and 3 sections of this album are utter wank and the "plot" has absolutely nothing on AI however there is not a single bad track on this album in my opinion, great review for a first, keep it up.

no, no and no.

After rereading this..I guess its okay for a first review, better than mine anyway, but lower the rating and learn to describe the music better.
|
| |
Not going to lie, some songs off AI were quite catchy and enjoyable, but after seeing this posted on half the major billboards in Toronto, I couldn't help but facepalm.

I went and saw them while they were promoting this album. I was happily surprised that they played almost all old stuff, post AI.
It was quite the show

Well, what to say? The album is fine when it's not too serious, but most of the time it is. Verily. How can one not choke when a song that begins with a simple, fun "I'm not fucking around!" ends with a senseless and oh-so-painful-to-listen-to "G-L-O-R-I-A" chanting? This whole "plot" is a joke. A horrible, horrible joke. As much as I like Green Day and as much as I like this album if only I fall deaf upon lyrics every now and then or at least forget they were written by a thirty-something guy, damn, a 5? Never ever.
