Splitting the atom was pretty bad but this is heartening.

Splitting the Atom was terrible, but this is alright.

Can't wait to hear this. Don't expect it to be anywhere near Mezzanine's s standard but if it's better than 100th window I'll be happy

I don't think Patton would mix well with Massive Attack at all.
I guess you haven't heard Lovage.

Album's....interesting to say the least

Collected didn't just make people forget about how crushingly disappointing 100th Window was
yo man i disagree 100th window was pretty awesome. not as ace as mezzaine or even collected but still pretty great.
Aside from that great review and i def. will check this out

I have to say i'm kind of dissapointed with the new album. I was hoping for something a bit more
alternative and dark, approaching the likes of Mezzanine. It fails miserably in that area, but 3 or so
songs are actually quite cool. Top ten? I don't think it will make it and i hope it doesn't because
they need to get back to work and bring out something that MA's fans want and need!! Btw 100th window
was much better than this... and btw, there way too many guest vocals! It kills the whole thing imo.

I think the number of guest vocals improves this record a lot. Maybe I'm one of those rare fans that couldn't give a shit if MA returned to Mezzanine or wahtever but I really enjoy this album. Flat of the Blade, Paradise Circus, Pray for Rain, and Psyche are the highlights for me.

I probably won't listen to this, never liked Mezzanine enough to warrant listening to anything considered worse, but I really liked the review. I agree that it sounded like a ~4 review, although it also might just be that you disliked 100th window more than the average person (3.6 on here) did, and your comparison made this seem like it should be better than that.
Also in response to "I don't think Patton would mix well with Massive Attack at all." I think if Patton's done anything it's proved that he can mix well with just about anything (although this could be pushing it, I would have liked to hear that).

Paradise Circus is probably one of my favorite Massive Attack tracks ever now. Simple, beautiful, sleek and sexy. I hope the rest of the album is half as good.

I loved 100th Window, and don't like this album much. Pray for Rain and Saturday Come Slow are good, that's about it on first listen.

I think you all are forgetting Patton made a trip-hop album in Lovage. He must've been pretty tied up to turn this down.

Mike Patton can do whatever he wants, he is a god after all.
Just started listening to this.

Exactly the opposite, surely? 90% of the music Mike Patton's made has been absolutely awful.
90%? o_O

Love this a lot. I agree that 100th Window was somewhat of a letdown, and this makes up greatly for it.
I absolutely love Splitting the Atom though... ?!

Interesting that they turned down all those people. I don't know if they're too self-indulged to accept some great ideas or just truely focused on the sound that they want. I want to hear the version with all those excluded people included though. =/
But saying that, I can't judge until I hear.

So yeah, what track is Fuchs on?
Pray For Rain is probably Massive Attack's best opener next to Safe From Harm.
