Excellent review Nag, I still need to hear this album despite growing up with their greatest hits

"But Blood Sugar’s classic does not stand because of a couple of well-placed singles"
that reads kind of awkwardly, what do you mean by 'Blood Sugar's classic does not stand'?
good review though, pos'd. The only RHCP album thats really worth having, IMO

Edges out Californication for their best effort for me, probably because i've had more time for this. Pos'd Nag

Heavy dose of Chili classics on a near classic album....Titan brought up a good point about the maturity of the band here

I forgot how much I loved Under the Bridge

Agree 100% with what you said about the three ballads being the best tracks. I could Have Lied is best IMO. I always thought Give It Away was overrated personally.

The maturity flaw was a big factor before, but then I was like, "Fuck maturity, this is kick-ass music!" pos'd

Glad someone agrees about it.

I've always really liked Melloswhip Slinky but it's always seemed to be one of the least popular ones

I'm not so keen on some of the later tracks, but this still rules.
Great review.

i don't feel give it away is really that overrated. i love the way it kicks in and just stomps along. ace song.

"Debating whether this is better then Californication or not"
I always say this is better simply because I can barely listen to Californication. It's sad since it's a brilliant album but the mastering just sounds for lack of a better word, crap.
Brilliant review dude.

Give It Away is one of the best rock songs i've ever heard.
i've never understood the obsession with I Could Have Lied, each to their own though

This and Californication are the only albums I really like by RHCP. Also, Frusciante's solo stuff but that doesn't really count.
|
| |
His solo stuff is so different though that it shouldn't be compared. Californication is actually my favorite chili peppers album.
|

Yeah, true.
