@Kubrick: Thanks for your feedback. My major criticism was what you pointed out in your post. The lyric analysis was far less important, and honestly, something I wanted to get off of my chest. Seriously, Limousine could have been one of the greatest songs I've listened to...instead, it survives by its promise.

Yeah I see what you were getting at. I'm more concerned with the musical aspects of any CD than I am with lyrics... good lyrics are more of just a plus to me than something that could carry a whole CD alone. This album particularly starts off pretty strongly... I really enjoyed the first 5 songs. But, no matter how good a band is at doing a specific thing (and this band really is good at what they do), it can never sustain the length of a whole CD by itself. I mean this band is great with the soft verse loud chorus dynamic and it really works for awhile but it just repeats too many times and the sense of momentum that the album builds in the beginning is definitely hurt by this. This album really could've been fantastic with a bit more variation and experimentation I think.

people need to stop negging this. they also need to stop sucking jesse lacey's dick. i mean, yeah i love this album, and i like lacey, but the review has some good points. they might not be fully developed, but for the most part, he gets his point across, and its a valid one.

Possibly the first time i've ever agreed with WhereIsMyMind. Stop being little bitches and negging a review just because you don't agree with it.

I wouldn't have negged if I had noticed this was a first. Ouch. Sorry about that, it makes more sense now.

But I didn't dislike it because I love this album, to those who want to assert that. I disliked it because the reasons for disliking it are weak and seem like they're missing the point. I could definitely appreciate a negative review of this album if it was a good one, that would take serious balls.

@Leto: Everyone keeps alluding to this point I'm missing. I'm a simple person who appreciates complexity and doesn't celebrate mediocrity. I criticized this album (with a image-shattering 3) because all of its rhythms and melodies are juvenile, and while some songs are carried on lyrical strength alone (Jesus Christ), most fall by the wayside.

So what is this grand point I'm missing? Did Jesse Lacey whisper it into your ear, or can a common man like myself recognize it?

its just one of those things...take your favorite album, for example, and think how you would react to someone giving it a 2.5 (which is what you originally gave this). i'm not saying it's mature, but thats why there are so many negs...people assume because it is your first review that you are not very informed

I understand dude. But I'm even open to discussing my favorite albums critically. They're not some untouchable doctrine that can't even be questioned. Its not as if I wrote:

"Lulz, bRand nEw is teh Gayyz", and called it a day. Its at least worth talking about ha ha

But yeah...I should have gone with a 5/5 for my first review.

haha a 5 probably isn't the best choice either, but tbh just review whatever the hell you want (which you did) and don't let people piss on you for giving it the rating you think it deserves

I'm well-aware that the musical portion of this can and usually does get blown out of proportion at times (barring a few songs, Not the Sun, Limousine, Jesus Christ, You Won't Know, which I fail to find any fault at all with)... but luckily for me I value more than simply instrumentation... aka this holds a lot of personal meaning for me (well before I discovered Sputnik too or any hype whatsoever, yes, I AM that cool).

Anyway, ok for a first review... but your biggest problem was presenting your criticisms (aka opinions) and not so much of a back-up. way too much "I think... blah blah blah". also, probably shoulda been better written if you were gonna take on THIS album... I know it's not fair but that's how it is.

Ktll, I think this could have been better as a more experienced review. I actually was excited for a different point of view on this.

This review has potential but it reads like a rough draft, you should re-write it.

So, I've had people tell me I "don't get it", "I'm not experienced", and paraphrase me as saying "I think blah blah blah" (which I lold at). I'm confused...would this have worked better if I did a track by track? I tried to avoid that, since I would basically be saying the same thing in the critique of each song: "play something new already."

This review is meant to serve as a retrospective view on the album that I thought was great, but in hindsight, is not exactly earth shattering. I don't think my assertions are empty. Maybe they're just presented in a strange manner...

I do agree that the structuring is awkward though. I'll attempt to revise that.
