Hearing Halcyon live was one of the most transcendal experiences of my life so far.

This album : a magnificient travel through space and even time.
And those "horn sounds" on "Impact" are some of the most infectious notes I have ever heard in any
music.
The album is very danceable too, I can't imagine how nice it must be hearing it loud and profound in a
big stadium or something like that!

Nice description and i couldn't agree more. I saw them live just last year here in Aus. They are

spectacular, and a sound experience that's hard to match. The Hartnoll's really know how to create

texture and gravity with their choices. Their music from this period was definitely made for live

stadium play i have no doubt because i got shivers down my spine when they went into Lush 3-2 through

to Impact and then Belfast. The atmosphere being in amongst fans that have been following them since

the beginning is beautiful

When driving back from the concert my mate and I were discussing that hearing Orbital live back in

early 90's when this music was new must've been mind blowing.

I live in Montreal and many HUGE UK electronic acts never come here or haven't for like 15 years!
Orbital, Underworld, The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy don't come very often to Canada :P

Yeah, I can relate to that. Suckage. I hope you can see them one day! Definitely save and keep an ear

out, Orbital's still on their world circuit, although i'm not sure you'd have to check. Wonky was

released about ten months ago so assume they're still promoting it

And yes!!!! I'm a big big fan of the Chems but... I still haven't seen them live!

I have the DVD of "Don't Think" on my computer and man...... it is incredible. Their visuals match their music so well. From what I have read so far they have an outstanding "live reputation" and honestly, of all electronic acts that exist, I would pay the most to see the Chems live!
Though Orbital comes close :P

I haven't listened to all of their albums but I would suggest, track-wise, to start with the likes of
"Chime" and "Belfast"! They are two of their earliest tracks (I think "Chime" was composed in 1989)
and should start you off quite well. They are also quite iconic in their own way.
Their first album (Green Album) is very very nice (old-skool techno!), but is still more of a
compilation than a tight-cohesive album. Of course you can't go wrong if you start with the Brown
Album (this one), which is their second.

For what it's worth, I started with In Sides (because it has The Box), but you really can't go wrong with any of their 90s albums.

^ Here here. I wouldn't personally recommend The Middle Of Nowhere to anybody since i find it pretty

underwhelming structurally. Still it's hard to be disappointed by any of this duo's out-put, whether

it be their experimental or their dance/tance-ier material.

That's cool man. Yeah i've never been a huge Chem fan myself, besides owning Exit Planet Dust and

Dig Your Own Hole - i particularly like DYOH, but i've never really enjoyed them much as their

contemporaries like Orbital, Underworld, Fluke, Leftfield,(mind you, not having heard the other Chem

albums past DYO i probably shouldn't judge). Considering

checking them out again if you have any recommendations?

Nearly all of the tracks played in "Don't Think" are classic Chems in my humble opinion. "Hey Boy
Hey Girl" is an important moment in their career : this is where they shift from earthshaking Big
Beat to tasty tasty house/techno (I'm not knowledgeable enough to distinguish those two genres).
"Out of Control" is also mandatory; plus it features New Order's singer on vocals (I am a fan :P).
So if you haven't listened to them : Hey Boy Hey Girl + Out of Control! Essentials! You will kind of
"re-discover" the Chems with those tracks. If they hook you enough, try also "Music: Response",
which is their next excellent opener after the legendary "Block Rockin' Beats".
I could go on with the likes of Star Guitar, Believe, Saturate, etc.
If you are looking to explore a third Chems album from start to finish, I suggest you "Further". It
is their latest album and it is gooooooood, so good. I love it. Escape Velocity. Another World.
Horse Power. Swoon. And of course the bonus track "Don't Think" : a simple yet mesmerizing track
which is one of my Chems favorites.

By the way, you mentionned Fluke which I haven't explored yet! I have pretty much their discography
on my computer, though, and I look forward to listen to them. Where should I start? =]

Ah cheers man, Much help. I bought the blu ray of 'Don't Think' from amazon few weeks ago. Now

waiting on it to arrive. I actually need some good new live concert dvd's for my collection so

hopefully that'll make a sweet addition!



And Fluke are beautiful. Primarily i'd start on their most commercially successful album 'Risotto'

which is generally regarded as the masterwork, and definitely an essential album in 90's

electronica. 'Atom Bomb' 'Absurd' 'Mosh' you've heard before no doubt. Or really, you could just as

well start from their early work and go from there, Six Wheels On My Wagon (1993) onwards.

Considering all of their output is superb and they're one of those groups who's style evolved and

improved throughout their discography. Early Fluke is definitely more

straight forward sort of progressive techno/house compared to their later style which became darker

and almost industrial. Mike Bryant Jon Fugler are amongst the most innovative British electronic

duos, they crafted a totally distinct sound of their own. Can't speak more highly of them really

Excellent. I will start no later than today. Probably will get all of those albums on my iTunes and
work my way forward with a keen eye on "Risotto". And mind you, I have never heard any of the 3 tracks
you mentionned ;)
Or maybe I have but I don't remember the titles. A year ago I was still a novice in electronica, had
so much to catch up with 80s, 90s and 00s electronica/synthpop acts (+ the likes of Kraftwerk). Still
have!
I hope you will enjoy "Don't Think", if it is possible listen to it very loud and in the dark, it will
set you in the perfect mood =)
