you know Noctus, the Cavanagh bros are amazing musicians, but I wouldn't take what they say very seriously tbh. Especially Danny, when he is not high he's usually an arroghant bastard.

to be honest yeah i can totally see that, danny is almost intolerable to watch in those interviews i sat through

I have to disagree with this review. You seem to be reviewing an image of the band that you personally want Anathema to be, rather than the band that they are.

Really, does it matter how many songs Lee sings, or how many orchestral elements are on the album? They are merely parts of the greater vision/song/album. Who cares how many of this sound or that sound is used, if they serve their purpose? The same goes for the vocals versus instrumentation point you mentioned.

To say "it just isn't the Anathema that many have fallen in love with" is completely off the mark in my opinion, considering this review is one of the lowest ratings it has received so far. I have seen that you frequent Last.fm (you linked to this review) and another well known site which I will not name here (where you use the same username as here) - you are the most vocal poster on those 2 sites too, with your opinion on this album, so you sort of stand out - and I'm sorry, but you know that you are in the minority at those sites. From what I have seen, Anathema fans in general have been calling this a great album, with quite a few calling it a masterpiece, so for you to speak for others with that sentence is very unfair in my opinion. You certainly do not speak for me, and why I fell in love with Anathema 15-20 odd years ago. Maybe they are not the Anathema YOU fell in love with? For me, this is the album I've been hoping for - finally and album where each song has the emotional climax that Anathema captures so well.

I also find this following paragraph to be pretty unnecessary, and without any quotes, questionable....

----------

"The band insist they haven't abandoned their roots, that their music was always about being so lucky to be alive, and how good it is to be on this earth. Well, could have fooled me."

----------

It seems as if you have gone out of your way to get that point into the review, when really it has nothing to do with the music on this album. It comes across as a snipe at Anathema, for whatever reason - assuming what you say is even correct, and not used out of context.

Album is very similar to WHBWH for me in that it starts of exceptionally well and then loses it a bit towards the end. The Storm Before The Calm and The Lost Child are both pretty boring to me and drag the end of the album down a little bit. Luckily Internal Landscapes is one of my favourite tracks here so it redeems the end of the album. Highlights are Untouchable 1 and 2 and Internal Landscapes.

um... yes? because i don't like them, and it's my review?

also you can read it like that if you want to, like i'm butthurt or something over the band not being the band i want them to, but it's far from the truth. :]

i posted it on facebook and last.fm, boo hoo? what are you trying to prove? how is me sharing my review any different to you sharing your opinion on my review? i don't give a damn if i'm the minority. i said 'that many have fallen in love with', not everyone, and if you're not part of that demographic that's perfectly fine.

that's great? i didn't tell you why you fell in love with anathema, stop it. you're more than entitled to your opinion, and your own experience, and if you love it that's perfectly fine. i have no idea why you're taking this so personally.

I also find this following paragraph to be pretty unnecessary, and without any quotes, questionable....

oh now i'm a liar that's great. it was a video so i didn't bother to quote it, but i've already told you what video it's from (check my response to willie) so go and see for yourself. it was merely an introduction to the band, and their sound and history, and i thought it was relevant since the interview was so recent.

also i don't know why you'd think i'd make a 'snipe' at one of my favourite bands.

also i'm pretty sure it was you that negged me, despite none of your criticisms actually relating to the quality of the writing. thanks! :]

On second thoughts The Lost Child is actually pretty good. Storm Before The Calm still bores me though, the first half of it anyway.
