But what I am saying – and you’ll have to forgive me if you, probably rightly, consider this comparison poor and/or kind of offensive – is that people who expound for hours on why pop music is trash and how its propagators are fake and – why not? – probably sluts are basically the same as people on the Internet who endlessly critique porn stars on their performances, how fake or real their moans are, how, in videos made specifically for lonely people to masturbate to, they are not catering to the whims of hyper-critical, faceless online denizens who need to be able to emotionally connect to their porn so that they can reasonably place themselves in the position of the muscled, well-endowed man in the video, when, let’s be honest, the supposedly fake moans and detachment are much closer to how sex with these people would actually be

I don't get that sentence anyways. Is he saying that people don't like Taylor's music because they
expect to be able to connect with it on some level, and when they can't, they criticize the musician
for not catering their performances to them? If so, where's the connect between that and sexism?
Because I don't see it, even if it's an interesting point (and interesting analogy)

I hate to say this (because it's a fantastically written review), but I disagree with your whole "sexism" comment. If anything, I like female-fronted pop more than male-fronted pop - Chris Brown, Flo Rida, and new Maroon 5 are atrocious. And I think there is something to do with appealing to the lowest common denominator - not that that's a bad thing, just that after a while the same few chords and boring schlock-house beat get boring. I agree with your point that good pop should be considered just as highly as "normal" music - I thoroughly enjoyed Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen on the whole. I just think that the second half of your first paragraph is untrue, at least for me.

The thing is, when her music draws so much from her personal life, wont critiques of her music automatically lead to critiques of her life anyway? It isn't that criticizing her life throughout a review of her music isn't sexist, but when her music purposefully draws so many parallels to her personal life, critiques of her life are going to come naturally.

[q] lol no you wouldn't review an antlers album or something and judge the choice to date someone that lead to heartbreak[/q]

Why? If the artist's personal life of personal experiences somehow factor into their music, it was somehow important? This is especially true with Taylor Swift's case. Is it wrong to note that most of her most succsessful and best songs were mostly motivated by her relationships. Is it wrong/sexist to note that "We are never ever getting back together" and "Knew you were trouble" were based on and motivated by her failed relationships? No, because they play a part in those songs and in this album.

If Taylor Swift made an album that was not based on her personal life at all, then it would be sexist to bring in her failed relationships as reasons to why its bad. But when this album is possibly the most dependent on her personal life, then you have to bring it in.

My 2 cents.
