Oh look, another fucking gnarly hip hop review.
"Back-catalogue is aall but gone" in the beginning of that monster first paragraph. Good read though

Jacob: I agree, but unfortunately it doesn't mean a lot to me given how i've felt about his old
stuff
Guzz: tehe how you been man? Haven't seen you around here in a while
also idk what is going on with the transfer from word to sputnik because my word version of that
sentence is perfect too. good lookin out on the edit tho

Good review but I mean…
this reads like a 4.0
and the second half is just as good as the first half (drop of the year on Free Information, Flight of The Navigator, The
Party, No Exit, Pink Toes.)
His rapping is definitely heavy handed at times now but its more impressive than ever.
The overall aesthetic, which could've been a mess cause it was so varied, just ties this album together so well

Yeah it feels like you have a few issues with this album but like it overall, reads at least like a 3.0

settled on 3.5 for now. like the majority of the beats quite alot. decent rhymes and lines mostly. delivery irritates me a bit at times - same deal with that Chance mixtape.
love the Thundercat beat on Shadows. like Flight of the Navigator, thought he pulled that style off really well but it's maybe a minute or so too long. like Worldstar, particularly the second half. he works the sudden contrasts in the beats really well. lots to like about it, and I wasn't that keen on the EP at all. that was my only Gambino point of reference

How does the rest of this compare to The Worst Guys?

There's much better

like dat high rating fish

awesome review bro. yeah i really hate the need for hiphop artists the cram their LPs to the gills with throw away tracks. i just dont have the attention span for that. give me 8-12 solid tracks and you've got my ear

this dude should go by Donny Glover

he's great at emulating other artists like drake and those rappers who are contributing to the whole pop-trap music scene that's been popular lately, but he kind of comes short when it comes to being compelling with lyrics. his flows have all been done before.
i really do like his skills as a producer though.

^what a weird opinion lol
He emulates rappers like drake on like 2 songs max on this LP and everyones acting like he hasn't pretty comfortably unique/charismatic in his past releases

thanks for the kind words eyybody
w/ regards to my rating, i was between a 2.5 and a 3 on this. i really like some of the things he
does on the first part of the album (especially production-wise) but jhene aiko is maybe the only
reason i'd ever go past "no exit" (which i consider to be the first half of the album due to it
being temporally in the first half of it).
i wanted to highlight some of the really good things he does in my review which is why it probably
reads like higher than a 2.5 because even though i'm not a fan of the last ~30 minutes of this i
know that there's a lot that might interest others (Narshh you're a prime example) and the first
part is definitely solid, but as a whole it just doesn't do it for me when half the album is imo a
waste of my time.
agree 10000% with sobhi, if he trimmed some of the fat here this would probably be like a 3.5

yeah i don't think he's constantly emulating drake or anything but he is definitely one of those guys who has yet to find a comfortable niche for himself; he's versatile enough to do a lot of different styles and he's charismatic when he wants to be but i kind of wish he would pick one and stick to it rather than be a hodgepodge of multiple personalities and ideas - seems like he does something different pretty much every time he releases something new

agreed that he has yet to find his true sound. the production here reminds me of Drake, The Weeknd and Yeezus whereas Camp was all about MBDTF. cat'll eventually need his own vibes to really pull off this whole music thing
|
| |
"this guy is the worst"
glad I can agree with somebody here
|
| |
Camp was so fucking awful, and I doubt this will be any better
