/Slow claps for Tillzilla

But really, some of it was hogwash. I've just always wanted to say that.

As much as most of you don't want to agree, an older fan is able to see how a band fits into its time period at the time of each album release and how they have transitioned over the years "with the times". I think Tillzilla is perfectly correct. Some recent "warped tour" punk fan seem to dissagree though.

If you know anything about NOFX, you will see that thier current style is a result of the changes made in "Pump up the Valume", or "Worst NOFX Record". But since then a gradual improvement not only in song writing, but in selection and theme has been achieved here. Every song can stand on its own, but all creative a specific mood and world realization. If I have any complaint it is that they seem to churning out songs rather than giving it their all, I mean "The Decline" was one of the most complicated peices in rock and punk history. Still, this is what Fat Mike admits on "60%". You don't need to be the best all of the time...

I find this argument complete BS. How does an "older" fan have a better perspective on an album than someone who isn't? They can still be subjected to the bias of the band. And besides what defines and "older" fan. There's no criteria for it.

I love this band, they have been around soo long doing what they want and still pleasing their fans. they don't care what people think of them and stick to what they say.
when i first listen to this cd i was a little disappointed but i gave it that second listen and a 3rd and now i have listened to it about 15 times in the last 3 days and i love it.

i do not agree at all with this album review at all
3.75 is what rating on this record by a band that does not disappoint and i will always respect

by "older fan", I mean longer fan, I.e. a person who has been a fan of a band for a longer period of time, not age. If you want to know why, read the review again. Would you admit that a person who has more experience with something may have a better vantage point. No?

I know, and I think thats a stupid reason to say someone's opinion isn't as worth as much as another's. Besides that whole concept is very subjective in itself (what makes a long-term fan- 1 year? 10 years?). 3 years is more than enough anyways.

Would you admit that a person who has more experience with something may have a better vantage point. No?

quality over quantity. Kif is pretty well informed on most of his reviews anyways so I'm more inclined to take his opinion.

I agree about being well informed when it comes to reviewing. I would much rather take someone who has heard the album 10 times, but has listened to the band for a shorter time than someone who is reviewing the album after one listen. I personally listened to this album 6 times before I reviewed it, and while Im not sure how much Kif listened to it, I think that his opinion would be much more valid than jschritz's

This cd is a workout for your skip button... I'm in love with about 7 of the songs... 3 of them are very blah... and I absolutely despise 8 of the songs.

Tracks 3,5,6,8,9,13, and 15 are the ones I love.

had this a coupla days now...

the only track that rly annoys me is "instant crassic" how it just fades out into nothing as its just getting going.

however, while this isnt their best album (that honour goes to SLATFATS or 45/46 songs or punk in drublic IMO), its certainly a good effort, my favourites are probably USA-Holes, Leaving Jesusland, seeing double..., 100times fuckeder, and you will lose faith, but the rest are all good too, very few that warrant skipping.

i wholeheartedly approve of the jim cherry memorial in "doornails," mike quotes three of the best strung out songs in that verse, RIP jim.

I really like Wolves... I think it is farrrrr better than War on Errorism. Wolves has much more original material. It isn't just the same thing over and over again. One Celled Creature and The Man I Killed are very unique NoFX songs and are both (especially the latter) memorable songs. The album doesn't slow down toward the end. It slows down toward the middle with the worst song, Cool and Unusual Punishment. Getting High on The Down Low isn't as fast as a lot of the songs, but it's upbeat and is another unique song for NoFX. We March to the Beat of Indifferent Drum is an absolutely terrific song with great transitions from slow to fast and standard NoFX harmonies. This album surprised me in a very positive way after the last album that all sounded the same and the lyrics were kinda bland. SLATFATS is my favorite NoFX album for some of the same reasons. It contains a variety of styles that shows that NoFX is not afraid to experiment a little. They have never had a reprise at the end of an album before this one and I think it's great. It's too late? It's too late for NoFX to play fast at the end of a song? They can't play slow sometimes? Most of the album has classic NoFX triplets that are as fast as any other material by them. Furthermore, El Hefe does not sing in spanish much and rarely harmonizes with himself on an album. I like it, but My Heart is Yearning and the Straight Edge cover are the best Hefe songs. Goddamn NoFX is the shit! Oh yeah...the title track and You Will Lose Faith are really cool, really fast songs and they are toward the end of the album.

This is like arguing with a baby spitting semantics. Those who can do, do, those who can't are critics, and those who suck, suck from the tits of critics. Get your overblown head out of your ass. I think that people know more than me so they can know more than you. And this is getting weird, music isn't about who can, like, quantify the most information. Its about whos bigger, and I'm bigger, so I say so! Ha!

Let's just say this, I know more than you. You can't know a band just by researching them on the internet. Kif has a good review, but it sounds researched, and I'm not saying that this is the only basis, but it is a big, big one. What if you're in a band? What if you know more about music theory and music history?

Yeah, Kif's review is good, if its coming from a teenager who knows nothing really of the music and whats behind it. He's floating on the surface. Why did they add the demos at the end, well, they aren't demos, they're more of a song writing diary, and they put it on because so many fans asked for it dumb dumb. A peek into the process, let's say. They put out the 7 inch of the month club and fans wanted to see how a band actually comes up with the songs. So Mike, showed the demos, the the final, and then the moment of inspiration. This came all the way back from "Fuck the Kids". He thinks that punk if far overproduced and by coming up with songs fast it has the shakiness of early music. Is he right, hmmm. sometimes maybe.

Well, I'm being unfair I guess. To really judge Kif, I will have to see more of his reviews to see what he thinks across the board. But from this review, it doesn't seem like he has that deep of a background. On NOFX, three years just don't cut it. Maybe a band like your guyses Hawthorne Heights, but not NOFX. Sorry about putting them in the same vacinity.

Don't take my opinion, I don't want it neither.

In words you may understand, googoo-gaga.

What the fuck are you talking about? And no one said that they know more than you.

And this is getting weird, music isn't about who can, like, quantify the most information.

I know, so why were arguing against this very point a few posts up?

Let's just say this, I know more than you. You can't know a band just by researching them on the internet. Kif has a good review, but it sounds researched, and I'm not saying that this is the only basis, but it is a big, big one.

So? whats wrong with that? Besides listening to a band for 3 years is more than enough experience. if you want to break it down:

3 years = 1095 days = 26280 hours = 1,576,800 minutes.

so the reviewer had a potential one and a half million minutes to get into NOFX. I think thats plenty enough to be considered "experienced"

He's floating on the surface. Why did they add the demos at the end, well, they aren't demos, they're more of a song writing diary, and they put it on because so many fans asked for it dumb dumb

So? Its a review of the album and its contents, not how they made it. Thats VH1's job.

Yes, knowledge can help but sometimes facts as such can be utterly pointless and unnecessary when reviewing an album and are usually only employed for basic trivia crap.

On NOFX, tHey Zesty Mordant and Kno_Kontrol, does it make you mad when someone bitchslaps your boyfriend?

hree years just don't cut it. Maybe a band like your guyses Hawthorne Heights, but not NOFX. Sorry about putting them in the same vacinity.

I think you're just being a bitch because someone gave a NOFX album a 2.

Don't take my opinion, I don't want it neither.

so basically that whole rant of yours is wrong then?

Hey Zesty Mordant and Kno_Kontrol, does it make you mad when someone bitchslaps your boyfriend?

Obviously not as mad as you after your butt-buddies in NOFX got a 2 star review.
