Behold the Arctopus might be the worst offenders

god yes forgot about them

to this day i firmly believe the only reason colin marston is good with gorguts is cuz luc restricted a lot of his creative input. martson's in all of this ubertech bm bands that are honestly some of the absolute worst music ever to be produced, yet in gorguts he plays his bass like a beast. he's a great instrumentalist but easily the worst songwriter ever

But at their core the band has produced music that can best be described as a cold hearted mathematician’s befuddled attempt at capturing what is “in the now” in regards to metal.
Not even close, just a million miles ahead of the pack.
However, I feel this I the Colin Marston show now (just like what he did to Gorguts). Was not very happy with this.

ok one last post for right now
i've read a few interviews with martson and he seems like a really smart guy. he knows a boatload of stuff about musical production which makes complete sense considering the dude went to college for it, and he's apparently been producing stuff for around a decade now. that's incredible considering how young he is. and colored sands is a great example of martson's more "conventional" dm bass playing, although even therein lies a ton of tremolo and wank and other somewhat annoying stuff that, in all honesty, is just marston's preferred style of playing. and you know he loves using that stupid 64-string warr guitar, yet he's probably one of the very few people on the whole planet who actually knows how to play the damn thing. even there, his skill is pretty much zero'd by the complete lack and ignorance of melodic construction. i don't get it, this guy could do some incredible things with his time yet he puts out absolute garbage. idk, this release seems to imply marston is finally willing to put out something a little more apt for a normal metal audience. we shall see

I love this band and don't really think the "hate" is justified at all.

every time i see this band name i think of krull and it pisses me off ive never heard this band and ive never seen krull

Agreed Veldin

So far ok I guess, miss their longer songs. Glad the other vocalist is more prevalent on this one as opposed to the death metal growler.

Well said but I feel he's still tinkering around and not really being constructive with his compositions on this album. I used to be a big fan when I first discovered his style about 10 years ago but come on dude, it gets tedious after a while.

This is the dm style of vocals. I miss Mick Barr's hallowed rasps.

i was impressed with this at first but i could never really find myself opting for this over years past matter
ypm was the perfect marriage of atmosphere and melody with the interesting technicality. this is just the latter, and i find it very difficult to care about it.

I don't get the elite attitude against this band though. And it's only here though. I know only one person irl who has even heard of then.
|

I don't know if it's an elitist thing to be frank, I just find them boring personally.
