is the rest of this better than 'a night...'? that song isn't bad, but it sounds pretty typical of them and their shtick has become tired by now

listening to Waves rn and idkkkkk

with this sorta prog-pop-indie-whatever, a lot of these orchestral elements just have no life in them. like, the composition itself is meant to be very lush, but the individual elements themselves feel kinda ... garish. not sure how to verbalize exactly what I mean. this is pleasant, but not evocative enough for me to return ever. a bit too polished.

I agree that as a whole this is missing something intangible, but holy hell is it catchy. And on an individual basis, some of these tracks still bring the feels (i.e. the aforementioned Waves).

I kinda agree though, I feel like there should be a little more than what we got so far and the last few songs didn't really hit me. They were a lot more basic and not as inspired as the rest of the album.

Exactly, Calc. Different people will always hear different things, but this approaches emotional perfection to me. I think the complexity does make it dense and hard to dig into the first few listens, but it really came alive to me after a while. Part of that, I think, is hearing the core melody of a track and then learning to hear the harmonies around it.

But it could also be different ears hearing things differently and processing things differently. The more I learn about music, the more I respect this principle.

as for the review, noticed a couple things:
"If there's a more masterful mind than Casey Crescenzo composing in the progressive rock arena, I'd like to hear them"
- you use both singular and plural here when referring to "mind"

"Casey and company have dialed into a new sphere of musical thinking with each release from the slow burning long-term evolution of orchestral-infused prog bombast that took the scene by storm on Acts I-III to the deft genre-hopping of The Color Spectrum to the down-tempo roots rock of Migrant all the way up to his most recent outing, the synergistic and brilliant symphonic piece Amour & Attrition."
- feel like you coulda structured this more smoothly. it's just kinda a mouthful. idk. it's probably fine.

"has stepped in; all of the musical walls he's touched"
- odd use of a semicolon. the clause on the right is a fragment. it's also redundant, so you could omit it.

"The jarring end to album-ender"
- kinda awkward IMO. the remainder of the sentence is also pretty wordy.

Really liking the transition of 'At the end of the Earth' to 'Remembered'

This has grown off of me a lot. I've only listened to bits and pieces since the initial first listen. I'm so disappointed with this album. I listen to the other Acts all the time. I've only returned to "The Line" and "Waves"

Hey Johnny - just as a rebuttal:

- "Them" in this case is a conjugation of the singular neuter "they"

- That sentence is long, but nothing wrong with it as far as I know. I tend towards those as a stylistic thing, I guess. Sometimes it comes off as ramble, but I think it's probably just a reflection of an expulsion of more wind than most can muster in a single sentence. I tend to do this in real life and it just reflects, I guess.

- I kind of like this as is - the statement sounds and reads as intended. Can't think of a better piece of punctuation to replace it with, honestly, and semicolons are, to me, useless if they can't achieve the function I've used it in here.

- Yeah, I should probably edit that one.

To all those stating how underrated "The Squeaky Wheel" is - I love that track. I think it might take a while to develop in the ear, but it's a definite favorite of mine now. Then again - so's the whole album.

oh yea I forgot about "them" as a singular...

with the long sentence, I personally find reads more naturally with some commas, but if it feels "right" then leave as is of course

as for the semicolon, maybe a hyphen would work better? guess it doesn't matter

all nitpicky stuff that doesn't matter I s'pose
