Dunno, I've always had a soft spot for this group. They're definitely not the most original of their kind and their lyricism is at best corny, but Deadlock is an otherwise likable band. Hell, I didn't mind too much of Bizarro World, even if both that album and Manifesto before it hinted that it was all downhill from there. A barely functional rocking chair is preferable to The Arsonist, just Saiyan. The F tuning wasn't doing the band any favors, songwriting felt lame, and John Gahlert's vocals could get pretty insufferable.
Regarding this new album, my ass was expecting Hybris to suck after Deadlock's previous disaster. Upon hearing it for myself, the offering's certainly an improvement over the last one, though not a gigantic leap in quality by any means. Berserk grew on me as days went by, though the t/t and Welcome Deathrow are also bangers. Good read, Ato!

Thanks! It is an improvement, agreed (though that wasn't hard to achieve from The Arsonist), but too many of those Killswitch riffs are straight plagiarism for me.
I've always had a soft spot for this group as well (Bizarro World is actually probably my favorite Deadlock album, and I always felt like it was their logical course), but maybe The Arsonist hardened my heart against them. Gahlert got a lot better on this one compared to Arsonist, which helps a lot, but just not enough imo.

I don't know. I made an The Arsonist EP consisting of I'm Gone, The Arsonist, As We Come Undone, and My Pain. So, I don't really hate the album. This is definitely a step back towards the best they've ever been... and they've only ever been slightly above average, at best.

They stay pretty close to average for me but always have a track or two on each album that get replayed for years. First track on here is catchy as hell.
Album cover is beyond dumb I don't know why any bands do this, do you not have anything serious to say? What does this picture say about your music and vision? smh
So far I would say the production and harsh vocals are really improved here, still warming up to the new vocalist, like everyone is saying if they play the next album right it could turn out to be one of their best I think.

The cover would be fine if they just removed the dumb vampire ho, background looks nice

Happened again, Epitaph on constant repeat since I heard it, this always happens with their albums.

T/t is still flavorful. Say what you will about the outfit, but these guys can craft tunes that I find myself revisiting a lot; The Brave/Agony Applause off Manifesto comes to mind, which was the song that introduced me to this band.

"The Brave/Agony Applause" is my favorite Deadlock song... easily.

Martyr to Science for me, that chorus is perfection.
After more listening these vocals just don't stand up to Sabine, they are way too processed and muddy compared to how clear and confident hers were.
