though I do agree that sentence either needs rewording to admit personal opinion, somehow reworded in a more objective way. For example, he could say something like "for an artist who's conscious rap projects are often considered to be of high grade." In defense of point a), a big part of what returning fans of Lupe Fiasco fans will not like about this is how it sits in context with his other releases, so it's actually a good topic point on this album

"this is true, but the review would then really limit itself to addressing lupe fans and not the inquisitive outsiders that are wondering whether or not this is up their alley."
the review would still need to assess the album on its own, cause otherwise it's pretty shitty to go "this album's shit because it's not a very good Lupe Fiasco album". But by touching upon how it sits among his catalog does do extra job of pointing the inquisitive outsiders to his other albums instead of this one, which is fair enough, considering this is ballz

i love how sach always asks if the reviewer wants any criticism

I mean there's not much point in asking, if you have legitimate criticism, drop that shit.
and even if you don't, that hasn't stopped literally every other user

yeah it does kinda do the opposite in that it touches upon the album on its own but focuses on it in context of Lupe's discography

If you thought LASERS or T&Y was bad, hooooooooooo boy, this album will be a disaster to listen to. Easily the worst thing he has ever done. EASILY.

I've never heard a Lupe album but I'm very intrigued by everyone saying this is the worst shit ever

He's just so bad at doing this sort of hip hop. Part of what's so off-putting about the album is that just he doesn't seem to be trying all that hard, as though he thinks it's just the easiest thing to put together a catchy hook and rap over these sorts of beats.

He really doesn't do this style much justice. It feels a lot like he is making fun of it more than actually channeling it. It stinks of little self-reflecting and a giant holier-than-thou attitude.

Always lurked here, but had to make a throwaway just to add some clarity to this situation...but, you do know this album is just a bunch of filler and leftovers that wouldn't fit on any of his other albums, right? It's not supposed to be some holy grail of rap, but a way for him to hold his fans over until he releases the far more cohesive and structured, Drogas, later on this year. He had to put this album out to fulfill the last part of his contract with Atlantic.
That aside, the review was well written.

It doesn't make the album at all better, but I understand, that makes sense, thanks for the context, mate. :] I've liked some of his material in the past, so I hope I like Drogas, too, looking forward to it.

Damn, he practically disowned Lasers from his discography because of how bad it was, I'm kinda surprised he's resorted back to that nonsense, especially after how good his last record was.

If this is honestly what he wants to give to his fans to hold them over, then he either doesn't respect them or, like I said, he has one of the worst egos in the game. Noone wanted this, and it turned out worse than any of us could have expected.

Should I even bother with this?

Just give one of the tracks a listen. It's all fairly derivative, so if you like one track, you might like the others.
|

I think the criticism for this is a bit harsh, but it's very bland club rap music, very safe and stereotypical lyrics.
|
| |
I mean I listened to and like the intro... Is that a standout track?
|
| |
So what's Lupe's excuse for releasing a pop rap album and not following through with it this time?
Ok woah I did not expect the RYM average to be that high
