Discipline is an incredible record, Belew and Levin really add something to the age old Fripp and Bruford duo. All the band members have chemistry and are incredible improvisers and songwriters. I might review this album myself...

Good review. I've heard a few from this album (The Sheltering Sky, Thela Hun Ginjeet, etc.) but i';ve never found it. I hope to get the LP somewhere....This Message Edited On 06.12.06

Elephant talk should have had a lot more then what was said.
It's a far better song and perhaps one of the best uses of chapman stick I have ever heard.

I have recently gotten a little tired with this album but I still think that it is pretty amazing and better than anything that came after it. Although, Beat wasn't half bad, Three of a Perfect Pair was horrible.

I was really bored today and started looking through my dads old tapes and came upon this. I must have listened to it 5 times in the past five hours. The only flaw is that it is too short.

Yeah, the one sore spot with this record is the over-reliance on 'dissonance'. It eventually becomes repetitive and also heavily grates on my nerves after a while. I also think that it impedes any significant differentation amongst the various tunes. But, I do understand that this approach is their signature sound, and while it impedes seperation on the album level, it is the same element which sets this incarnation of KC apart from every other band of the period. I just think that they didn't need to rely so heavily on dissonance. They didn't need to build every song with the same musical philosophy. Then again, I usually listen 'Discipline' and 'Beat' together as one piece, so I'm really speaking about the two combined here. So, in order for me to still be able to hear this great lineup of KC, I'll just listen to 2 or 3 songs at a clip and then put them away for a while. This really is one heckuva a lineup here with Belew, Fripp, Bruford and Levin. And, I just recently saw a video from this period that I didn't know existed - Three of a Perfect Pair: Live in Japan 1984. Worth finding.
