This doesn't touch Trench but I'd still say it outdoes Blurryface and most of their earlier work. The Outside, Redecorate, and No Chances stick out to me.
Also, Choker sounds like its straight off Regional at Best, it's almost uncanny.

Listened to the first three songs. I think I will like the album.

Oh this is aggressively pop even for me haha

I like how on choker he has to mention that he DOESN’T smoke
yeah this isn’t my thing

yeah I definitely understand both sides of the coin here
I fall into the category of those who dig the pop style, but I definitely see why people wouldn’t be for it (Choker and Saturday were a bit off putting to me at first but I came to love them)

These guys have really fallen off hard since Vessel. This is devoid of pretty much everything that made the band interesting for me, especially lyrically

Idk man, Vessel is one of my all-time favorite records and this is definitely worlds away from that but it's all part of the same artistic project Tyler Joseph has been developing since he was a teenager and it feels very much spiritually connected. At least that's my take on it, it's just pop at the end of the day

Why do so many people disavow Blurryface? I still think it's amazing. Haven't heard all their albums but to me it's worlds better than this or Trench.

Blurryface is way better than those 2 agreed. It has some great tracks but also some really weak ones, so it doesnt hold up to their first 3 albums in my eyes

I still need to listen to those. I know I've heard Vessels at least a few times in full but it's been ages. The first two LPs I haven't heard at all.

Yeah this band is not for apparently.. Trench was the only good one for me

Their first album is amazing, you should def check that one if you haven't Sowing

I'm with Sowing, this band has been only moving backwards since Blurryface. (Also, Sowing, definitely give their first album a shot. It is raw as heck but it has some stunning tracks.
This one did nothing for me, minus mildly enjoying Choker because it reminded me of Addict with a Pen.

" A lot of the album relies too much on basic lyrical composition and rather surface-level themes that don’t require a significant amount of thought to understand."
100% agree, but realistically that's true of every twenty one pilots album -- just to a way more severe extent here, plus the pop hooks are weaker and the music is less engaging and dynamic

Their first album has a song called The Pantaloon

and it's good

Blurryface just sounds like music I'd hear at the supermarket and pay not much mind to tbh

After two listens, it's grown on me. This may be their second best record.
I find good day, bounce man incredibly grating though.
Favs so far: Choker, Mulberry Street, Redecorate

this is bland but at least its not agressively terrible and annoying like Blurryface
I'm just glad I probably won't be hearing any of this being played everywhere I go
