I basically agree with every point you make, but to me it's still a solid 4 musically.

Still I also hope this is just a one-off and not the new direction they're taking. Would be a bummer if they completely abandoned their rock roots.

They're apparently planning to release the next album in spring of next year.

Titled "Sunya" which is "the mythical holy city in The Indigo Child. Also the title of the next album."

Another album named after a city is making me kinda doubtful about returning at least partially to their old sound.

"this is about as bad as migrant, yeah"

Woah, what did those poor migrants do to you to deserve this

This album to me is a great example of "the journey, not the destination". Even though it's pretty easy to guess what each ring will be like, the music is so damn catchy and well-made that I don't mind the predictability.

Super refreshing listen for me, especially coming off the heels of a whole lot of metal binging

Even if it's not TDH best work, this is still a fun listen and it honestly makes me really excited to see where they'll go from here. I always enjoy when prog-esque bands lean more into poppy or fun elements.

yeah decided this actually rules. great pivot musically while keeping their oeuvre very much intact. with that said I could've done without that hamilton-esque crap in luxury

Hard agree, Calc. TDH has a knack for creating some addicting melodies no matter the musical style. Also refreshing to see a legit album following Indigo Child

As someone who barely cares about the thematics behind The Dear Hunter, all I garnered from this review was that musically it's repetitive funk rock. Would have liked to seen this review allow the music itself take centre stage and the story evaluation cut down a little.

@NonApplicable - That is totally fair. The main draw to me for the album is the concert and it’s what make this not totally successful for me, but I definitely acknowledge that I could have said more about the music. The other two reviews for this are great too and are a bit more music focused - Would def recommend checking them!!

There’s like 50 juicy layers in every track here to cling on to, absolutely love it. One of their better albums for sure

Man I fucking love Patrol honestly haha. Not my #1 here but first jam I couldn't wipe the smile off my face. The whole record is so fucking over-the-top and goofy in a way that just brings me joy lol

Might have been better if they put those two Indigo Child songs, the other instrumentals and released the short film with this album. It's weird how they introduced everything in the first album, it doesn't feel necessary. If they dropped it all together this would be a a monster of an album stacking up with ACT 4/5 in scope. Musically it's great as always. Some moments are extra cheesy.

Well according to Casey on Reddit the next album is planned to be released in spring of next year already. So fingers crossed they'll add more context (and hopefully variety) quickly.

@Zeiu yo actually that idea would've been kinda sick. Have the instrumentals of the soundtrack/EP give space in between the big ass Ring tracks like lil interludes and the Indigo Child & reprise track bookending. I like that haha
