I can empathise, pal. It's tough to write about an album when you don't particular care for it and trying to draw out something positive from that experience. Sometimes it can help me to think about what I can learn about myself and my interests from that experience.

No, my summary isn’t meant to be clever. Quite the opposite
I get where ya’ll coming from, and I will say I wrote this review in the early morning (as in, after my first listen immediately upon the album dropping) and reading back through it I can see areas where I could flesh it out more. As for reviewing the man himself, that’s going to happen when this band is pretty much all about him. He’s the focal point. I’m also not saying the artists I compared it to are 1’s, I was more confused and annoyed by the lack of creativity here given the band have proven their versatility before with their own style. This album lacks any of it, it doesn’t sound like Panic made this at all, and even when they’re ripping off other artists who put out good stuff, they don’t do it well at all. It’s so phoned in. I’ll try harder next time but I am starting to think my autism might be why my reviews don’t cohere as much, I either get stuck on one aspect and can’t move on or Im all over the place. Idk I’m not trying to use that as a crutch or excuse I believe it genuinely might be why my writing doesn’t work for others. My creative writing in school was often used by teachers as an example of what not to do, so I’m eager to prove them wrong

Thanks HelloJoe. I haven’t been into these guys for a while but I thought I’d give it a fair chance and it was painful to get through

I haven't been into these guys in... ever? I had zero expectations going in. XD

This album needs a review with a more critical eye.
I feel like if I wrote one it'd be more fanboyish but this came off like you didn't wanna like it before you listened to it.
Sugar soaker was the most fun I've had with a pop song this year.

“this came off like you didn't wanna like it before you listened to it”
Nah, I really wanted to give it a chance. The singles were awful but usually there’s at least half an albums worth of decent tracks

This was reaaaally awful. The production is thin as heck and Brendon´s voice is so upfront it doesn´t blend well with the instrumentals.
The worst thing are the songs he tries to emulate bands/songs.

I agree that Urie didn't help his own case by just going into hiding when the allegations came out, but I also have to agree that centering a whole review around those allegations is kind of a bad way to review an album.
That said, I'm kinda shocked this album is a stinker, considering Star Spangled Banger was kinda really good and it gave me hope that Urie learned from... uh, whatever the hell that last album was. Such was my foolish dream, apparently.

What are the albums that Panic! fans hold in high regard? I think Pretty. Odd has a good reputation, doesn't it?

I know a lot of people are nostalgic about Fever, though from what I've seen, Pretty Odd has people split down the middle. Vices was a slap though.
For me at least, TWTLTRTD and DOAB were at least decent enough to be guilty pleasures, but his last two albums have been pretty crappy.
And I'm gonna jump on the hate train for Middle of a Breakup - that might be one of the worst songs I've heard all year, and is definitely a contender for Panic's worst song as a whole.

[2]. Never felt any urge to explore past these

Fever is undeniably a classic and is often seen as one of the most important albums of the 2000s, especially for pop punk and emo. I still enjoy a good old spirited listen to it every now and then. Pretty. Odd. definitely has its moments, Vices is an enjoyable listen and Too Weird... is a solid listen, and honestly that's about it. Bachelor is hit and miss, and unfortunately with every listen the really cringe parts stand out more than the highlights. Pray for the Wicked is lolbad
I think a lot of the reason Fever gets held in such high regard too is that it came out at a lot of the fans' formative time in their development- it certainly did in mine, and this was when a lot of bands like Dream Theater, The Mars Volta, MCR, Coheed and Cambria, and others were shaping my 14 year old self's taste in music.
