Excellent review. I also wasn't super thrilled with the singles at first but have grown to enjoy them in context of the record.

All of Kimbra's records since Vows have required a number of listens for me to fully appreciate outside of a few standout tracks.

Primal Heart took me a hot minute, after seeing her perform the reworked and stripped down versions of the songs on that one tour though I started listening to it a lot more and really fell in love.

I don't know if this one quite stacks up, it seems a little more accessible out of the gate to me and a little less dense, but I'm still really enjoying it for all that it is and all that Kimbra brings to the table. Hopefully it won't be such a long wait for such a short album next time.

It’s funny, early on I thought to myself “this has son lux vibes but pop”. Foolish Thinking comes on and you hear his vocal feature and I’m like “that is definitely Son Lux”. Sure enough Ryan Lott produced basically the whole thing. Which is no surprise as the production is by far the best part. Unfortunately Kimbra doesn’t really carry it very well. Mixed feelings.

If she was able to provide performances like personal space and replay across the board this would be really great but a lot of the tracks she’s just outmatched by the production (or the feature in the case of GLT)

Also the bookends don’t suit the vibe of the rest of the album at all, really dislike those two all around
