Yeah on the first listen I feel pretty confident in saying this is his best since Something More Than Free, maybe even since Southeastern.

White Beretta best song?
Or maybe the closer if not?
Last three songs the easy peak of the album for me, outstanding
I’m 4.5’ing this - his best

Loving this. “Miles” and “Save the World” are my favourites so far (“Save the World” particularly because of the chorus (his vocals remind me of Geoff Rickly a bit too at times in this song)), but the whole thing is great and very easy to just listen to on repeat

That last song is great yeah, also the one that most sounds like a late career Petty/Heartbreakers type tune
Save the World another winner…I think I only rated one song as low as a 3.5 second listen.

Nice Son Volt reference in “White Beretta”

Last track sounds a bit more like a Crazy Horse jam to me tbh. Fantastic song.

My focus was on Tenhi but so stoked to hear this after reading this review and seeing some of these comments and ratings!

I wasn't really into the first two songs but it really got going from Strawberry Woman onwards. I'm finishing up my first listen and am digging this a lot more than his other recent stuff.

“Miles” is so fucking good

Finished this and yeah, "Miles" is incredible and definitely solidifies this.

Finished my first listen through this and enjoyed it a bit, about as much as reunions. Hoping I decide this has more replay value on further listens, reunions fells off quite a bit.
Not seeing what you all see in save the world… a bit too on the nose with what’s meant to be a powerful chorus falling a bit flat.

production on this feels earthy, more retained ambient sounds and bleed in the mix than the ultra clean polish on stuff like The Nashville Sound and Reunions. I dig that tho. too soon to tell if I dig this more than the codified run of 4s I've given all his work after Southeastern but it's on par with those if nothing else. one of the most consistently rewarding songwriters in the biz doesn't miss yet again, water is wet

The last three definitely raise this an extra .5 on my rating, maybe more
Strange that all three of my favourites arrive at the end
Least favourites are ‘Vestavia’ and strangely I’m not totally in love with the opener - both are solid though

Miles is just so fucking good. Im also not a fan of Vestavia. Welcome to the club
Cast Iron Skillet is probably my other highlight

Yeah Doof the last couple tracks especially definitely elevate this. I do wish a bit more of this resembled the more jammy aspects of those two, would love a full album of The 400 Unit leaning more into their Allman Bros/Crazy Horse tendencies.

Agreed Boney, they give the album a bit more rock and a bit more depth generally
I also think 'White Beretta' is up there with maybe 'Cast Iron Skillet' and 'Strawberry Woman' as the best of the more expected country tunes here.

feel like he went with a different vocal approach on this album and I'm digging it
lyrics are crazy good too damn

could be speaking too soon but this might be my favorite thing he's done besides Southeastern

I think everyone’s starting to think the same tbh
The last three songs are a tour de force in particular dang
