I don't know if anything here tops 'Marian' (few songs do) but after two listens I am loving this and can't wait to dive in more, get to know the lyrics better. I think Joe is one of the most unique, consistent (and underrated) songwriters in indie rock today (and has been for a while). His music has meant a lot to me over the years. Really enjoyed reading, especially that final paragraph.

i think Bootsie might be my favourite song of his, it took a loootta listens to get there though. Marian is absolutely masterful still

Think this is the best stuff I’ve heard from him - Arcade Fire ‘Funeral’ vibes on tracks like ‘Bootsie’ say to me this album could have been huge at one time but might land on an unreceptive audience in 2023. It’s maybe a bit out of step.
Probably top ten of the year in reality though, really excellent. Took four listens for me to be sure.

this was pretty good on first listen
could do without the closer though, that thing just drags

pika - closer is the worst part I guess but also not as bad as some people on RYM have stated
also this went from a 3.5-4 on first listen to a 4.5 by listen five for me so a big grower and I usually find it easy to pin stuff after one or two listens - not with this one though

Yeah, this is great. Not as big of a Cymbals Eat Guitars/Empty Country guy as many here, but one of my favorites from either project.

dustine is my personal favorite

I had no idea this band was a thing, LOSE by CEG is one of my favorite indie rock records. Spinning this right now
|
| |
Decided to give this a spin while I work in my pottery studio today. Hits just right. I'm not usually into music this "fast paced" when I'm working but it's excellent

Dustine is one of the best tracks he's ever made. After having a few more days to reflect on this album, I think it's firmly the frontrunner for my AOTY
@sunnyvale
I believe we have as well. It's crazy how overlooked Pretty Years is. LOSE and Mountains get their rightful due, but Pretty Years is one of the most magnificent swan songs I can recall having. A truly haunting record that is never too far from my rotation. "Wish" is an all-timer for me

wtf i didn't even know cymbals eat guitars weren't a thing anymore
