I adore this. I’ve heard Sun Milk and enjoyed it but didn’t quite love it, this is much more immediate. “Bad Energy” and “Always Change” feel like they will become very personally important songs.

You felt the breath of God in a restaurant
He was just asking what you're having to eat
You knew you had to leave him a gratuity
Or else it'd come up to the sum of the beast
And bad energy…

Yeah, I've been acquainting myself with the whole Little Kid discography and all their albums rule, but I'm convinced this is the best.

Used to play in a band,
Back when you were a grandchild,
Just some friends drinking beer,
Y’know - nothing too serious

yeah bump, 'Somewhere in Between' is so good - it has a tiny bit of 'Nothing Gives Me Pleasure' by Josh Rouse in it does that tune, esp the chorus, slower tempo though

Nice bump - still digging this a ton and also spinning their earlier works regularly

I will go through their discog properly by year's end, had a skim across a few of their earlier ones and some very different takes on their style, liked everything I heard to some degree though.
The debut is very different but also could tell it was potentially special.

The Mrs has started noticing me playing and now likes this album and that's usually a good sign too

Yeah, all of their albums scratch different itches - it's really interesting that their debut has the most ratings on both Sput and RYM, given it seems the least easily accessible of theirs, but it's excellent. I've been gravitating towards River of Blood a lot, but I think this is their most consistent start to finish.

My gut feeling is this will remain my favourite yeah - every song is different, every song is great

Hadn’t rated this here yet but I also bumped to 4.5 after an initial 4.

I copied you yeah, I’d been thinking about bumping it - still my favourite of the year so far

Yeah, I'm curious how this will fare compared to the Adrianne Lenker release in a couple days, as you have mentioned there is a lot of her/Big Thief's influence on this, though there's also a fair bit of Kozelek (especially on "Always Change" and "What Qualifies As Silence") and even a bit of Blake Mills in the vocals at times. I also feel like "Bad Energy" is a perfection of the thing the recent Aaron Dessner/The National stuff has been doing.

I feel this should be Lenker's real breakthrough solo release - the one that might get a similar audience level to a new Big Thief album

"Nothing At All" reminds me of "Hold On Magnolia"

Thanks for reviewing this sunny and brining it to my attention, this is a really great album that I have been enjoying on relaxing weekend mornings.
Fiance heard me listening to this yesterday and said 'ooo Bon Iver vibes'. I suppose some of his early stuff did have this sort of a sound, not a comparison I would have ever made.

Cheers Feather! Yeah, I'm still totally loving this one. Not sure I really see the Bon Iver comparison, but interesting note there.

Agreed.. but always hearing a wild take from a casual listener
