It is not better than SSTB I'm afraid.

SSTB is overrated and bores me most out of all 3 albums.

It took me a while but I grew to really enjoy SSTB.

So far I love them both, though Apollo more than Turbine.

we are no longer acquaintances.
Seriously, I find it amazing how a good amount of people feel that SSTB was weaker than their other releases. Of course I don't know what order you got the albums in (for instance Second Stage Turbine Blade was my first coheed album) and that usually makes a huge difference, and of course personal preferences. But as far as songwriting, lyrics, etc. I think Second Stage takes the cake. Because that is when they didn't go overboard with elements that make them so fantastic early on in their career. (Oh and there were actually creative bass riffs and drumming, those two categories have declined from my point of view, especially since the bass was actually audible back on the first album.)This Message Edited On 08.03.07

There are some tracks on SSTB with awesome bass work. Ala Time Consumer and Delirium Trigger.
I've been enjoying IKSOTSE:3 a lot recently too. This is definitely a weaker album in comparison, still very good though. This Message Edited On 08.03.07

This and SSTB are the only Coheed albums I have, and I like this one a lot more. I'm considering upping the rating tbh

Overall, a pretty terrible review Mr. Hanson. It's pretty odd that for such a decent rating, you really concentrated on way to many negative aspects to support such a position.
Yet, I must say I disagree with a great portion of the review. The attempts at soloing (I do support your statement that the band really had no such thing on previous efforts) are rather inticing and beautifully done. I would say the mandolin use was awkward but cheesy? The band is over pretentious occasionally on the record but otherwise they stay in a great progressive rock groove. In short, this album deserves closer to a 4.5. (.5 off because of the band's inability to contain their creativity)

The first few times I listened to that song I thought he said she was fucking some guy named Appolodoo.
Something about this album just doesn't work for me. Love The Suffering, Welcome Home and a few others but there's just something about this albums tone that falls flat on my ears.
SSTB is the shit though.
