It's very atmospheric...but there are certain leads here and there that are quite nice. The songs are long, although some epic, but you may get bored of it.

Vocals are kinda black metal-ish, although not always.

on another note, i just got this. I would give this a 3...its not VERY fantastic, but not bad either. I like limbs and falling snow especially. and i dont like the fotress trilogy.

"Limbs" Intro is so amazing.

And the general feel of "Falling Snow" is superb and top notch.

Awesome album.

I much prefer The Mantle to this. AATG really did seem to drag in parts.

I would like this album better if it wasn't of the vocals. are they worse in the past albums? This Message Edited On 10.17.06

I'm gonna give this one a few more listens before I collect thoughts about it. It is beautiful, I will say that much now.

I've gotten to the point where I hate most albums I overlisten, but this still keeps sounding amazing to me.

Nice review

Best album of 2006 by far.

I absolutely love Pt. III - The Grain contrary to what most people think (that I've seen). It's just so haunting and works brilliantly as a closer to this monster album.

I've came to the conclusion that this is extremely good.

No rating as of yet though.

Good review. You said enough to get me interested - I'm going to try and get hold of agalloch. Don't know if I'll start with this - there are quite a few mixed comments in this thread.

This album is awesome - if the grain had been two minutes long I would possibly have rated this 5 but I just cannot take 7 droning minutes. The guitars in this album are so haunting - superb melodies everywhere complemented by potent riffs.

That's the big problem I have with the Mantle now, it drones. I don't think this album drags the way their privious albums tend to do.

Yeah, I tend to agree. The Mantle has some incredible high points, but this album is really strong all the way through - like I said, take away the last five minutes and, for me, at least, it would be perfect.

This album is just amazing in every sense of the word. One of the greatest metal releases EVER, in my opinion.
