Yeah, Amulet full on feels like there isn't any new ideas. My love for Circa means I still really like it a lot and it's not like they fell off a cliff, but I struggle to see the same amount of love that others seem to have for it. It feels like they were really grasping at straws and the album kinda falls into this mid-tempo haze that makes it hard to differentiate the songs

yeah spot on. def not a bad album or anything but it blends the hardest of anything theyve done, and feels a little low on truly magical moments to me, which i'd say are flesh and bone, at night it gets worse and the bonuses

The title track for amulet is great too. Honestly, Amulet has maybe the opposite problem as Descensus and Violent Waves. I think Amulet is more consistent and has a higher floor, but I think the lulls in Descensus and Violent Waves help make their highs even more powerful. Descensus in particular has some of the most magical moments in their entire discography that even if the album as a whole is kinda all over the place really helps cement its place in their catalgo

What happened was they refined their craft little by little every album and The Amulet is the culmination of all of it, their best and Two Dreams is not far behind

two dreams felt like a pretty bold step in a new direction for them, and i really woulda loved to see them keep going down that road. buzzhemge was a hell of a song to wrap the discog on and it and holding someone's hair back are all timer career bookends (for now i hope please i miss you circa)

Yeah, I have complicated feelings on Two Dreams. I loved the ambition and the change in direction, but it also feels a little undercooked and frustratingly vague in its ambitions. It's such a bizarre way for the band to possibly end, though I do dig

yeah even i think its more than a little frustrating. i def think the death ep pulled it off the best, while also thinking some of love's shortcomings could have been mitigated in the wider context of a more cohesive album. also think spiral and pentagram were musts and that they both open with their worst songs
