even after how good Routine Maintenance was, Divorce & the American South might still be the best Aaron West song

I think Routine Maintenance is the better overall record, but Divorce & The American South is still my favorite song Soupy has ever written. That “When we lost the baby, I kind of just shut off” line gets me in the soul every time.

This album I find superior to RM but I think it might primarily be the memories of my first summer away from home jamming this. This just sounds so much more raw to me and I think I enjoy that too. Our Apartment is an absolutely stunning opener.

Likely the only album that reliably brings me to tears even after all of the time since I first heard it. It's a little much sometimes, but man oh man does it tug at my heartstrings.
