I really couldnt fathom primus with another vocalist. The music itself is very weird and goofy, which Les matches perfectly. A conventionally good singer like dio or whoever would ruin the fisherman vibe

i feel u
thats how i feel with a shit ton of artists i like. usually i like weird/quirky/unconventional vocals so i honestly have some hope that this could be a 3.5+ for me one day. but today is not that day

If it makes you feel better, this is definitely their most straightforward and conventional release id say. Their later stuff gets weirder and weirder, so perhaps his vox could be a better fit for those songs

Everyone talks of Les Claypool and rightfully so, but Alexanders drumming here is absolutely phenomenal.

Wild agree, adore these drums.

Spent my teen years frothing over the bass lines on this but now I play a bit of drums too in my old age Herb blows me away just as consistently.

Herb is a phenomenal drummer, so forceful but somehow light as a feather. his performance on APC's "The Hollow" absolutely makes that song.

Oh never knew he played on that. Song just got even better.

Yeah wtf, never knew that either. Thought Freese played on that one too.
If you want a great Herb performance, check out Michael Manring’s Thonk. Alex Skolnick is on it too; really groovy fusion stuff that’s nowhere near as boring as Manring’s usual fare. They did a few more albums with that lineup under the name Attention Deficit but it doesn’t quite reach the heights of Thonk.

I can't believe Ryus got filtered by Les Claypool's voice.

Definitely good drums but the vibe is not my jam you know?

"part of the shtick, bro"
semi (not really) related, but this reminded me of that time a young lad on the train said "dude" to me (context isn't necessary here) and I felt almost physically violated. His delivery was vile too. Awful
I don't remember what this sounds like, but I imagine it is slightly less good than my score says for reasons... probably

I don't mind being called bro or dude in general, for sure not in the online space, and a Primus thread is especially suited for it imo.
Haven't jammed this in ages until today, and wow this still sounds so refreshing! I feel like bumping my rating to 4 actually.

Groundhog's Day is perfection. Ler and Les contrast and mesh so well on that joint
