Saying someone's opinion is incorrect is the best reason for having a website like this in the first place. Jesus, if we can't argue about that, what can we do? If you like the album and think the review is poor, for god's sake, don't let other members scare you out of voicing it.
Not that this review is bad. Just a general statement. I felt that the comments of a few members before me puts this in perfect context. This Message Edited On 03.28.07

I'm not saying you can't argue an opinion but thats disagreeing with an opinion. You can say I think mines right and I disagree with yours and then argue about it in that sense like intelligent people. However opinions cannot simply be right or wrong. Thats what some people are voicing.
For example it's ok for Machine Head to be your favorite band and to disagree completely with this review. However it's wrong to say Machine Head is the best no questions asked your review sucks and it is wrong. It's even ok to say the review sucks if you can back up why. But most people saying it does can't. They say he dosn't like this album so his review sucks which is completely unjustified. This Message Edited On 03.28.07

Whaaat!? Dude this must be the first time I see neg-votes in one of your reviews. I think you did a great job with this one. Have never heard anything from this band and I will probably never listen to them.

Most of the songs on here also come across as completely forced, length wise. It seems more like they were really trying to write these long songs and arrangements, instead of it coming across as natural and more dynamic. There are some good riffs here and there though. Precisely.

I've only sampled this CD from Amazon.com. But it sounds like the hype might actually be true for this release. But there is no way in hell this is as good as Burn My Eyes. Robb's vocals have aged like a rotting corpse.

a lot of mix reviews on this album. some reviews give it a very good rating, in the end its all you though. i heard it and its decent for me. i still think blood sweat tears and imperium are better than any songs on this album.

I'm sorry you wasted your time writing such a long review that you will find most people are going to disagree with. If you don't like this album you seriously don't know what metal is. You should quit while you're so far behind.

"Have never heard anything from this band and I will probably never listen to them."
This would be a huge mistake. We're here to give opinions and if Mike doesn't like it then that's his right. For you to not give an album a listen because of what he says is not only shorting your self from forming your own opinion but would turn you into the type of "follower" that I know none of us wants to be.
Decide for yourself.

I suppose there's no reason to tell this guy to shut up?
I'll do it anyway.
Websites like this are created for people to give critical recommendations. If you barreled through all of the negative feedback about an album and got it anyway because you're determined not to be a follower, what's the point of being a member? If you want to have a well balanced music collection and avoid all of the shit out there, listen to recommendations. It's what they're there for.

Wrong sir. I give everything I can a listen and form my own opinion. The fact that a lot of people do love this album means that they would never have heard it if they just listened to reviews like these. I'm saying that the reviews are cool to read but you have to take them with a grain of salt. One man's junk is another's treasure.

^^^he's got a point. i delayed on buying a few albums because of a number of negative reviews on them, and later found that i liked them, with some even becoming favourites of mine.
although my view on this album hasn't changed, having read a lot of the comments, i realise i was a little harsh in what i said in my last post, and its all about a difference of opinion, so i'm gonna pos the review. nice work!

What the hell are you suggesting? That you listen to all albums you can get your hands on, even if they are absolutely panned by all of the reviewers? That's an idiotic stance to take, in my opinion.

If you don't like this album you seriously don't know what metal is. You are a silly, silly man.
If Deth reads the review and doesn't think he'd like the music I described, then why would he bother checking it out?Why bother reading a review if you ignore the criticism/praise?

i think reviews would play a part in whether or not you give any particular album a listen, but at the end of the day, if i see an album whose genre and style is something i'd usually like, it's fairly likely i'll give it a try regardless of criticism/praise, on the offchance i'll like it anyway, or just out of curiosity.
by the same token, i've seen albums that have been praised beyond all belief and when ive eventually gotten round to giving them a try, i've hated them.
basically what im trying to say is that reviews are likely to play SOME part in what new music i'll listen to, but don't completely control it. im pretty sure there's at least a few people here who'll agree with me?

Ok, Ive listened to this album enough to actually say now that it is a solid record. Ive heard some things (positive and negative) about the length of the songs, but the more I listen to them, the more the riffs flow together. Im at the point where I dont even realize how long the songs are because there is something to offer in each tune to keep me interested. My favourite tunes in order:
1. Slanderous (takes number one because of the riffs throughout the song)
2. Wolves
3. A Farewell to Arms
4. Aesthetics of Hate
5. Beautiful Mourning
6. Now I Lay Thee Down
7. Halo
8. Clenching the Fists of Dissent (has a few lame riffs in it and I hate the part where the group of Machine Head fans sing 'Fight, Fight, Fight'. Kinda Gay!)

Through the ashes of Empires changed the direction of this band, and to say that some of the songs are "
unlistenable" really is stupid. I've yet to hear a song that is unlistenable...ever. I do like this album because I'm a sucker for this band and I think the drummer is massively overrated and yes some of the songs are overlong but it is still fun to rock out to! These guys are GREAT live and I can't wait to see these songs live.
