I wasn't going to comment until I got this but great stuff. I'll order this in a week, myspace songs are great Pirate Metal. Not as brutal as Vikings but equally as cool.

Pirates aren't brutal though. They're just drunk. So that's understandable.

Aww man, I was gonna make a comment about the sheer awesomeness of pirates and vikings, but balls beat me to it.

Great review, I'm definitely interested in this *checks out their MySpace*.

I am only half way through this album, and it's funny and awesome.

I know of a tavern not far from here

Where you can get some mighty fine beer

The company's true and the wenches are pretty

It's the greatest damn place in the whole of the city

I'm not gonna lie, I think this is pretty mediocre. They rip off a lot of bands and the pirate theme is kinda fun for a bit...but I don't know.

Who do they rip off?

I feel like I would only enjoy this if it was just an EP instead of full length. I think I'd get over the lulz at just the right time in an EP.

Theres an interlude in the second song that is exactly like To Holmgard an Beyond by Turisas, the band breaks down and the vocalist yells some inspirational thing over the top. Lots of generic 4 chord verses...some awkward changes from fast metal riffs to goofy "pirate" melodies. This is all just a first or second impression pretty much.

They do take influence from Turisas, but at the same time they're really different IMO.This Message Edited On 01.31.08

I know innovation/originality in not just the theme but the music itself is important, but a friend of mine once said to me, concerning writing that, really, it's ALL been done before, you just have to find the elements that work best for you and give them a personal touch to make them yours. Obviously this is slightly less true of music; writing is limited by our language, but music is so much more expressive. That's (mostly) why we enjoy it; it's a glimpse into someone else's mind, the real deep stuff, things we couldn't really see or feel any other way. It may seem familiar the manner in which these guys provide that, or try to, but I for one, find it to be a truly unique experience overall, and engaging in a way that doesn't demand or force my attention (like many good bands, many of whom are worthy that attention) as much as it gains it in stride. I don't chose to listen hard to Alestorm and try to find every little change-up, fine tune, extra sound, odd nuance, ect. It just kind of happens, almost involuntarily. I gave this album a 4 because I can't find anything I dislike about it. At all. Sure I've heard better albums, but even those had parts or songs or sections I didn't/don't care much about. I love every minute of this CD, whether it's ripping or not makes no difference to me. Just my opinion . Hey, that rhymed lol. This Message Edited On 02.01.08This Message Edited On 02.06.08

Doesn't the chorus of Huntmaster remind anyone else of Wishmaster? Haven't seen anyone mention it.

This sounds fun. Pirates should be loosely associated with metal anyway. I think so.
