This is definitely Linkin Parks best, and IMO only good album....at one time wen i was just starting to like "rock" Linkin Park i guess u can say was my "gateway band" n introduced me to the harder stuff, i used really enjoy this band......but then......something horrible happened......they came out with "ReAnimation"....my views of Linkin Park were crushed after that.....so now its alil harder for me to start liking them again, but i still enjoy HT...it was very artisticly done and emotional
That was a nice "talent theory" right there. Its just weak on some points. Like "every person with a musical career nevermind the genre has talent". That is untrue. When "talent" is mentioned it means something above average, and most mainstream music nowadays is average and below. Any one who can sing correctly(not sing false notes) does not mean that he/she has "talent" to be a good singer. .
Every band has talent. They have the talent to be sold, marketed, and forced upon the pop culture world. Now, I didn't say every band had musical talent, did I? ;)

I do think LP has musical talent, yes. But they also had the ability to be sold, as well.
The point to be made here is that, for people to buy music, they have to enjoy it. And making music that 7 million people enjoy (that's the sales for this album, last time I checked) is not easy. If it was, we'd all be doing it.

Hence why the ability to be sold, while not sounding much, is a talent.

JoZ, your post above was spot on.
OK gentlemen, I disagree again. It takes no talent whatsoever to be a whore. Think about it. All it takes is determination and a few business associates to cough up cash and put you in the right place.

What makes you think Linkin Park "sold out?" Maybe they like to make instantly-accessible, easy-to-play mainstream rock. Maybe their goal from the beginning was to have as many fans as possible. You can't really say for sure.

...Yeah, but if you have no charisma, if you aren't marketable at all, no one will pay you any mind.

Linkin Park have the look, the attitude, and the desire to be marketed, and whatnot, and, in spite of what some people think, they have some musical talent to back it up. Not all of them, and not a whole buttload, but still

I can agree to some extent, such as all of the one hit-wonder bands that pop up all the time. Linkin Park on the other hand had numerous hits and are still popular today, that is some kind of talent. If "whoring" as you call it is so easy, then almost everyone would do it, many try, only some succeed.

No, they're not musically technical and amazing but they had a good forumula that got millions of people to listen and they had some fairy good material to write about and got the emotion accross pretty well, and they all held up their part of the band (Except maybe the bassist, as has been pointed out, but it is nu-metal, after all). I loved Linkin Park and they got me into the music I enjoy today, especially the heavier stuff that I now enjoy, I barely listen to their stuff anymore, but they'll always have their place, and HT was a great album for it's time. I'll also agree that the constant airplay got very annoying which probably has to do with why I don't listen to them almost at all today, but I imagine I could sing along if I heard the song somewhere due to the songs being catchy and memorable.

I'm sure Hybrid Theory is many albums past the 7 million mark. I thought it was more like 12.

Hah, I can sing along to Backstreet Boys tunes, being "catchy" and all. Does that make it good rock music? Putting LP on some kind of pedestal is plain dumb, especially "just because they sold millions of records". Britney Spears sells millions of records. Ludacris sells millions of records. Does that mean 20 years from now anybody would remember them? I dont think so.
Hybrid Theory currently stands in the record books as one of the Top 30 (I think) selling records in American history. They WILL be remembered, even if only for that.

Backstreet Boys songs are catchy. This doesn't make them a good rock band, because they're not a rock band. Being catchy doesn't cause you to change genre (despite whatever accusations of selling-out are thrown around).

You're getting away from the issue. We're not trying to say that Linkin Park are a good rock band. We're trying to say how annoying and ignorant it is when people keep saying that they have no talent.
I never said they have no talent. HT is a decent album. It's just nothing special. And I'd prefer to be remember for actually writing good music that lasts rather than making the "2002" top selling Cd or whatever.

^That's probably why you're not in a band like Linkin Park, then.

Linkin Park. Where to start.

They're a good band, and yes, hybrid Theory was played numerous times in my stereo, but come on. It dies after the 40th time in one day. All of their songs are overplayed, and it's ruining them. And they have a pwerful singer, why ruin that with fu

I'll be honest...after take a look around by limp bizkit (i know) linkin park was my other major influence for harder music. so thanks for that i guess. But they have a good formula for memorable songs. it does feel a bit watered down after listening to other stuff but hybrid theory is a remarkable record.

This was probably my favorite CD of all time. Why do I think that? Because there songs are so catchy and interesting. I listened to that so much and it got me interested in the Linkin Park Underground. I am still a member today. I have thought why I still am though. Linkin Park really revolutionized the music industry in my point of view. So then the highly antisipated 3rd CD, Meteora, comes out and I got the special edition and...and...well I know the words. This CD had some cool music on that CD, but the lyrics?? I thought that Lying From You, Faint, and Somewhere I Belong were good. What the hell was the rest of it though? The amazing library they have with videos is almost God-like, to many. Linkin Park is an awesome band and they are still the first CDs I see when I open my organizer, but they have got to stop doing those extra special things. Ok, I bought Frat Party at the Pancake Festival and Live in Texas, so why do I want to see the Points of Authority video, or the Lying from You video and the other Live in Texas Video when I can watch them over and over in the comfort of my own home? Isn't it about time they put something out that is actually fun to listen to and watch without having to see it on TV? I think so. Linkin Park is the best for know but they really need something to keep the attention of fans and myself interested without it being "Breaking the Habit DVD." Cool in all but what the Hell? LP rules

Great album, nice review, just like to add, Mike plays guitar as well, and that Scott Koziol played bass on this album.

Hybrid Theory is one of my favorite CDs. It had near-perfect song progression and no slacking moments.

Meteora, on the other hand. . . uh. I'm glad I managed to borrow it before I bought this popmetal tripe.

"LP's music is formulaic, soulless, and above all terrible. When I first heard "In The End" on the radio I knew this was a band I needed to stay far away from."

Agreed. Terrible. All there songs utilize the same exact formula: guitar/piano riff, intro, rapping verse, loud chorus etc etc. Lame.

Listen to some Opeth or something.
