In the bittersweet video there's a bit where Richard Ashcroft has "the stare" and in it you can see the real deal, passion, anger, spite and a belief that's he's ready to take on the world. It's Richard Ashcroft for fuck sake and even he had it.

Pretty decent pop album. But it never reaches the heights of previous works like the dreamy soundscapes of "The Verve EP" and "A Storm In Heaven", which were amazing, trance-y psychedelic masterpieces. Or the previous "A Northern Soul". Anyways, a song like "Catching The Butterfly" is amazing.

All I can say is, is that "Bitter Sweet Symphony" is the greatest song I've ever heard. It's freaking amazing!

True, I used to think there were some weak spots but now I find the whole thing really enjoyable. I love jamming it on vinyl, they did an amazing job with it, but the production is tits in the first place

Great review, great album.

The 1-2 punch of "Space and Time" and "Weeping Willow" followed by "Lucky Man" is one of the best things I've ever heard. Some fantastic guitar work on here

"bittersweet symphony is the worst here honestly. that song borders on grating" - Yeah, agreed. Thankfully it's the first track so I can pretend the album starts on Sonnet, which works out beautifully :]

Yeah, it's a shame. I tend to remember this album exists through The Drugs Don't Work, the first verse of which still hits me in the gut.
