just throwing this out there, The Sufferer And The Witness > everything else.

This album is just kind of Sufferer and the Witness again but a little more contrived in search of hooks... Idk I still really like it, but i doubt we'll see the memorable technical stuff that was on Siren Song, which is my favorite thing by them by the way. other than "like the angel" RPM never did it for me.
Best Rise Against song is their cover of "making christmas" on the new Nightmare Revisited compilation.

Some of the riffs and songs sound a hell lot like Bad Reliogion if you ask me.
"Entertainment" sounds exactly like it could've come off Bad Religions last album.
Also Hero of War has some pretty shit lyrics.

I really liked Hero of War because the other songs were similar in structure and approach; whereas this song just came out of nowhere and startled me. I think the lyrics are really graphic, but they have to be to convey the message.

Musically it's good but yeah the chorus is terrible

This is getting pretty dang close to a 4 because of Savior alone. And Whereabouts Unknown is so freaking good, too. The end of this album is full of pure, delicious win.
WIN, I SAY!This Message Edited On 10.05.08

the lyrics are sooooooo bad
Are you referring in particular to the "pissed on his hands" bit?

the song in general just seems really shallow. it's like he's trying so hard to make a message that it just comes off so blatant and in-your-face.

Siren Song > RPM > Sufferer > Appeal = Unraveling.

The rage and fire in the feeling of the Sufferer and witness are missing, and to me this album just isnt striking the same chords with me that Rise Againts have before. This is a good major label rock album, but thats not what I want from Rise Against.

Man...not good to hear that this doesn't have the same fire and emotion as their past albums, as that was one of the things I really liked about Rise Against. Guess I'll have to judge for myself on MySpace in a few minutes.
Going to (try and) see this guys in Austin mid-October with Thrice, Alkaline Trio and The Gaslight Anthem. Sky high expectations, needless to say. This Message Edited On 10.06.08

Wow, in comparision, the vocals really fall flat and feel quite unpassionate when put against Sufferer or Siren Song. Really a bummer

Tim McIlrath can never sing without passion in my opinion.
He doesn't scream on this album, though, which I was really hoping for.

I love the first 2 tracks but then it just gets boring and lacks variety. I prefer TSTW, to be honest.

Yeah man, he needs a couple more screams like the one at the end of Entertainment. Considering this is one of my fav band, I'm disappointed with this album even if it is great. Last 4 songs = pure awesomeness.
For me it goes: TSTW>RPM>Siren>>Appeal=Unraveling

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the album.

Got it last night. 'Entertainment' is my favorite track of this and Tim's vocals have improved quite a bit.

You're in the minority there.

I don't like Hero of War much for some of the Lyrics.. and Entertainment, I hate it near the end. But I always had some little dislike and hatred over specific songs of Rise Against, so nothing bad here.
Otherwise, I think the album is awesome. Less screaming? Glad. I was tired of it. The rage is out, I personally don't need that again.
The singing.. wow. So much better than before, its not just a bit, its much more. The style definitively changed, which I understand does not please everyone... but it certainly pleases me.
And Audience of One is my favorite song -ever-. I just love that one. Come on, so many here are rude on this album.
Do you guys only care about screaming? Seriously.
