This album and band in general is criminally undercommented.

better than being overcommented like ctts...
...better than ctts.

This is the part where you tell me how amazing this record is. I found it a bit overrated-- the album and the band. Tell me how to get into them, sniper01. TELL. ME. I wanna know...
|

If you are going to like them you already did the first time I think.
Actually if you haven't listened to/read the lyrics, do that.
Edit: And I like this better than ctts yeah.

My issue with it was that I felt that this group especially, because it operates on extremes in terms of sound, is one that I would either love or hate. In parts where I felt like inserting myself into the music would help, I found that I was alienated, in that I didn't feel the emotions the musicians did. I'd heard the lyrics were amazing, and my mistake was not looking into them before/after I'd heard their discog. Will do that for sure next time.

I don't know exactly why I like it so much. I guess it has something to do with how well they juxtapose the spastic freakout sections with these absolutely stunning interlude-sounding parts. It all works very well for me.

Liking it is reason enough to like it, and reason enough for me to check them out further. Since I started from scratch, ratings wise, I've been listening to more and more music out of my normal comfort zone. Will most likely start at "Chaos" within the next couple of weeks, and see how things go from there.
|
| |
That's probably the best place to start, just work your way forward. It might be easier to get into this if you check out Ampere first. I didn't "get" this until I had gotten into Ampere for a while, and now I rarely listen to Ampere because I come here first.
|
| |
Noted. I will do just that. I take it Ampere is a band that'll help me get into the genre?

this is probably the easiest album of orchids to get into really, and ampere is just like a really condensed form of orchid. if you arent big on screamo in general, id suggest off minor as a good place to start, or some european stuff as they are generally more on the melodic side.

this is my favourite Orchid release

Thanks, liledman. I had "The Heat Death Of The Universe" at a 5 way back when, before it settled comfortably into a 4.5. There may be hope for me yet.
