Pianos Become The Teeth
Old Pride
Topshelf
( 4.5 / 5.0 )
…
Baltimore's Pianos Become The Teeth sure know how to bring the room crashing down around you. Their Topshelf debut, Old Pride, isn't your typical hardcore release, nor was it meant to be. Instead, Pianos play brutal and emotionally honest music that expands upon their genre's formula in resemblance to such acts as Defeater and Ruiner. From the intense “Quit Benefit”, to the anthem-like “Sleepshaker”, to the solemn closing of “Young Fire”, Pianos Become The Teeth keep everything very fresh throughout, making for an expansive experience unlike much of the scene today. Old Pride brings you the fury, sadness, redemption, and everything in between life throws at you. This release may be quite underground for now, but it won't stay that way for long if the band keeps this kind of work up. (www.topshelfrecords.org)

But I swear I'd at least break the fingers of the hand that dealt this to you.

In other news, this album is really great.

this album is so good, i'm pissed i put it off for so long

I love how instead of being screamo and then post-rock, this manages to be both at the same time. Not that other bands don't do that, but this is a really comfortable mix for me. Most bands in this style seem to use post rock song structures and build into the screamy bits, but this is more like the typical screamo sound/song structure but covered in a coat of post rock.
And its really fucking good.

this really really shitty "ska" band from my high school that (barely) graduated with me is playing a show with these guys and We Were Skeletons in a few days. Things don't make sense.
|
| |
On the plus side these guys and We Were Skeletons are both great. I feel like this album has become an old friend.
|
| |
I 5'd this the other day. Maybe I'm crazy or something, but I listen to this more than any other screamo record I have so there you go. 5.
|
| |
you craaazy
that's how I felt about Mesa Verde's The Old Road and I 5'd that so I can see where you're coming from though
|
| |
yeah but mesa verde are way better than these guys
|
| |
I kinda see where you're coming from... it's less that the music here is REALLY good... it's just got q likable quality that makes it
fun to listen to, deserving of a 4 imo, more would be pushin' it
|
| |
I almost 5'd The Old Road actually, but I chose this instead.
And yeah I must be. I don't even like CTTS that much anymore. I like shitty screamo better it seems.
|
| |
seems so
|
| |
CTTS grow on and off me pretty regularly so idk
I think you should've gone with the Mesa Verde 5 though :x
|
| |
I think fun is the right word. As fun as screamo can be, which is still not that fun. But I think to get someone into the genre, this
would be the best place to start.
EDIT: I think Mesa Verde are better, but I listen to this much more compulsively than The Old Road, which I need to be more in
the mood for.
