Mike Doughty put out this Ghost of Vroom 2 EP in September. It has that fun walking bass groove and monotone vocal delivery of Soul Coughing.

The interesting thing was that he said in a recent interview he was interested in putting Soul Coughing back together for a record. That blows my mind considering he said he hated the band and didn't like the music that Soul Coughing put out (paraphrasing my understanding). He said it didn't work out because he "got back a hot plate of crazy" from the old band members.
But, Ghost of Vroom is a collaboration with bassist Andrew Livingston and former Beastie Boys DJ Mario Caldato.
Why Ghost of Vroom 2? There is a Ghost of Vroom 1 (possibly an LP) that is on the shelf during COVID, but Mike Doughty was impatient and recorded a companion EP and released it first just to have something out there.

Just saw Mike Doughty and his latest band / project tonight, so got to catch some Soul Coughing songs. Great night, a lot of the songs from his solo work were three times better live, and he does really have a great voice. The drummer and the cellist tho… good god they were unbeatable. He was signing mercy and saying hi after the show too so got to say hi (I put hi and howdy together to make a “heist” 🤦♀️) and get a vinyl signed. He was super friendly and personable, was down to talk as long or as little as the people getting their stuff signed wanted. Great night
