Damn this is just great.
4/5 though leaning towards a 4.5

Possibly one of my favourite albums ever, all things considered. Mormon Island is the only thing that stops this being a 5.0 for me, but after Sevengill it was always a tough slot.

Mormon Island is about as divisive a song as I've ever heard. Sometimes I can't even listen to it, other times it's perfect.

I think that's spot on pedro70512. The rest of the album does all moods, but that one track does split me.

Dead Man Slough may be my favorite track here. At least it is at this moment cuz I just got done listening to it.

That song is deliciously creepy.

Favourite song off this album is such a tough call. I think my favourite PART of the album is the end of Dead Man Slough, but overall it's probably Rubicon Wall. Aaron's voice in that sounds like it's on the tipping point of madness. Glorious.

Mine is probably the duet at the end of Sevengill. When her voice kicks back in it gives me goosebumps.

Just seen they've finished the basic tracking for the new album. Hope it's as good as this one!

Very excited for the new album. I wish it was out right now. Need to mention Throwing a Donner Party quick too. That's a great change of pace song for this album and breaks up some slower tracks nicely.

Just thought it was important that my 4000th comment went to my all-time favorite album. m/

what did you give Minoans pedro?

I'm still trying to make up my mind between a 3.5 and a 4. It's got some really cool melodic bases, but there isn't much oomph. Giant Squid, I think, is at their best when they balance prim(ordi)al ferocity with understated elegance, but Minoans sort of mashes the two together without touching upon the peaks or troughs. Sixty Foot Waves gets going pretty nicely, but the songs aren't different enough (see: Dead man Slough / Throwing A Donner Party / Sevengill) to be memorable as individual units. I still need to dig into it more to be sure of my opinion though.

'Just thought it was important that my 4000th comment went to my all-time favorite album. m/' Couldn't have a chosen a better album, really.

If any song on this comes up when listening to songs on random, it pretty much always prompts a whole album listen at some point in that day.

Basically. Usually this one, Metridium, Cenotes, Monster, or Minoans.

I don't have Monster in the Creek. How does it compare to their other stuff?
Your description of Minoans is pretty apt pedro. I probably should have ranked 3.5 but gave it a 4 cuz Giant Squid. The Pearl and the Parthenon may be the only Giant Squid song I strongly dislike.

Well, I wrote the review for it if you feel like reading a little lol. It's more laid back and has lots of keyboards. More indie rock than metal but the first two songs are fantastic. It's definitely worth a listen.

I'm digging the vocals on this, to say the least. The way that the cello and keyboard are integrated into the band's style is also quite pleasurable. I've heard Cenotes and I'll definitely be latching onto the other material. A fix such as this is always nice every once in a blue moon.
