Wait, why didn't I find out about this until now? Gonna give it a listen

This is how I imagine Dream Theater would be if they were good.

... and without all the overblown keyboard parts.

That's what I mean. This is Dream Theater without any wank.
Hell, I guess it's not Dream Theater at all then.

What is this I'm hearing about a new Psychotic Waltz album? By hearing, I mean reading this thread.

Agreed w/ the dream theater comment up there.
I'm someone who hasn't been able to get into Dream Theater but this is already enjoyable first listen. Idk how good it will be for me long-term but I would think 3.5-4.0. I usually can't get TOO into progressive power metal cuz let's face it, even the most progressive of prog power metalers still sound a lot like the others. There's a lot of irony in that, unfortunately.
Still, this seems pretty good.

Yeah, this is really nothing like DT. It's like the complete antithesis to the music they make while still remaining within the "progressive metal" realm.
Listen to Redemption if you want to hear something that sounds like Dream Theater, but better.

I go back to this album from time to time, really good stuff.
Matheos never really did anything remotely close to "mediocre". EVER.

Right on. Well, some of that last OSI album...no. Let's just blame that on Kevin Moore. It was still very good overall though.

The last OSI album was great, between a 3.5-4 for me.

I have it at 3.5 too, but I just didn't think it was as good as the other two. The first one is still the best, imo.

Phenomenal album. Particularly interesting that this appears to be many posters' first introduction to John Arch. Could prog fans remain who have yet to hear "Awaken the Guardian." Ye' Carpathian Gods! Really? A transcendental album! A seminal mainstay of 80's metal! A flabbergastingly lasting treatise on power prog thrash!
Needless to say, the decades may as well have been months. John Arch lost none of his compellingly pellmell eccentricity, vim, fire, or acrobatic vocal wizardry. I simply can't see Alder having competently sung this metal-laced thrashiness -- anymore than I see Arch having delt melancholic justice to "A Pleasant Shade of Grey."
Fortunately, "Sympathetic Resonance" is not that album. In fact, it sounds like nothing so much as "Paradise Lost"-era Symphony X cum Arch-era Fates Warning. If you enjoy either, I find it likely "Sympathetic Resonance" will find a sonorous home with your collection.
