This isn't a great album. STYE and RTR seemed way more inspired, and although this album has "more technical" guitars, the songwriting is far inferior to pretty much anything else IF have ever done. Reflect the Storm is probably the best song on here, but the album as a whole is really hit and miss.

Ewww. I much prefer STYE because while it may not have been as good as older material, it was catchy. This is neither catchy nor interesting. In Flames worst album.

Nice review man. IMO this is definetly a step up from STYE. This album is just full of old school In flames stuff. Also they brought back the old stuff while still keeping their new style which paid off for them big time. I hope that hardcore In Flames fans are with me on this one. This Message Edited On 02.10.06

Yuck. Classics are "Whoracle" and "The Jester Race". This my friends is no classic. I prefer the melodic guitar of "Moonshield" to the ripping chords of "Take This Life" my self. Personally I feel that this album is good but it reminds me alot of Soilwork minus the awesome clean vocals. My favorite song is the title track. With the acoustic and electric melodies I like the direction the band is going, but they need to splice in more of the oldies to get the sound I want to hear.
HIGHLY Baist review though. Sorry to say. One con is the entire long and annoying part of "Bedtime Story". The last metal minute is good but a HORRIBLE way to end a good album. This in my opinion is like "Clayman". Not eargasmically awesome but not aweful either. I liked STYE but they need to be more In Flames and less radio friendy. Personally I think if they went to the "Colony" era and stayed there that would be the best for them at this point. Just my opinion. Someone should do a better review of this album soon or I might have too .

This album is better than the last two, but pales in comparison to older material. It has a few memorable songs, but most are doomed to mediocrity. The album probably sits about here:
Jester Race
Colony
Whoracle
Clayman
Come Clarity
Lunar Strain
Soundtrack to your Escape

Okay, so I bought this the other day. I find a lot of the songs boring but some songs r00l.

So I read in a magazine that this is supposed to be the hardest stuff In Flames have released up to now. Any verification on this one, as I do not really know their older stuff?
I'll be checking out this one, only heard a couple of tracks online so far.

Whats your favourite songs on this album, just curious to hear what people have to say with their opinions hahahahahah.
1. 'Crawl Throuhg Knives' (what an amazing opening riff)
2. 'Pacing Death's Trail' (kind of has a Children of Bodom
lead riff in the chorus)
3. 'Reflect the Storm' and 'Leeches' and 'Scream' are all tied

i might as well do this too, although most wont agree from what iv seen posted so far...
1. come clarity (im a sucker for an epic!)
2. leeches, reflect the storm, vanishing light, all tied
3. crawl through knives, and pacing deaths trail tied.
the others are good, but the above are the real gold dust for me...

This album is nothing more than average for me. I was pretty pumped when I heard they would try an incorporate more of their older sound into their new stuff, but I don't think it worked too well. I agree with the people that said the sound production was just plain bad.
As well, there are quite a few songs on their in my opinion that are just not up to scratch at all, the worst song being "Scream". I don't know how that song got on the album. Anyway, I also agree with people that said this was a step in the right direction. The last two albums for, especially STYE, were being average when I envision melodic death metal. I hope though In Flames can build from this and produce some good melodic death metal in the future and bring back the glory days.
BTW, how can the song Come Clarity be considered an epic? A 4 minute, average ballad type song in my opinion does not get the epic stamp of approval.

All the songs on this album that I like, I love.
The songs that I don't care for to much are still pretty damn good.
