Haven't heard yet... though these reviews and comments keep making me wonder if it's worth it.

It is definitely worth some listens, some like and some hate it really.

That summary makes it sound like this was supposed to be a psych album.

I'm not mad they abandoned death metal, I'm mad they've abandoned personal style in favor of aping retro prog bands.

Explain all of the love for Damnation then.

Damn, smaug. It's a completely different genre now and also one which has been done to death. Did y also never consider that some people just prefer prog metal to prog rock?

"we need to accept that the latest "Opeth" album is not great"

Blanket statements like this don't belong in a review.

wow, i got the perfect recipe for making ppl mad :D

I'm just saying that since watershed, people have began to dislike their discography, largely because

many people find the absence of death growls and raging guitar riffs frustrating and annoying. I bet

if someone heard this album without knowing opeth or who it was, that person would probably like it,

besides, this album might grow on you

The band has been putting out metal after metal release, bar Damnation. Their fan base will obviously be into metal above everything else, so what do you expect when they all of a sudden shift like that? it just happened because of their existing fan base and it's not everyone's thing

Idiots on sputnik can't enjoy a good prog album, only cuz they have abondoned death metal

playing what was considered progressive in the 70s isn't progressive, it's dated and nothing new

BMDrummer gets it, and most Opeth fans like prog it's just that these recent prog worship albums they've been doing just don't compare to their signature musical style, and no, I'm not talking about growling and death metal riffs, but everything that made them special. Most people, like myself, like Heritage and this a lot but it just doesn't compare to their 1998-2008 stuff

it's like Steven Wilson's latest solo album, lots of people call it a KC tribute record

As TND puts it as rock going through its middle aged phase, where it's reflecting about how awesome it used to be
