^exactly, this album is pretty much 10 years too late to really do anything.

No surprise there. That's why they made this album

As far as I remember both Fever and Temper Temper were commercial failures anyway so not much difference. Its mainly just kerrang hyping up any british hard rock band when almost all of them are just shit.

temper temper was created to appeal to the angsty kiddies but they didn't realize that the angsty kiddies wanted "heavier" stuff instead so they made this and now here we are

Bullet are releasing the same sort of stuff ten years on, and all the 15 year olds who loved them became 25 year olds who cringe at their former youth.
Maybe therein lies the problem. Getting into an album by Bullet and expecting good lyrics and mature music is like listening to My Dying Bride and expecting a song about sunshine and rainbows.

My issue with this album is that listening to it just felt like listening to a single very long samey track. Once I finished the album, I could barely remember a moment that jumped out at me and I felt bored, and I usually don't mind bullet! I wanted to like this album more and just.... didn't.

"Bullet are releasing the same sort of stuff ten years on, and all the 15 year olds who loved them became 25 year olds who cringe at their former youth."
that's exactly the problem with this. they aren't maturing as the years go on. that's pretty much the stagnation the review is talking about.
|
| |
they write very generic and unoriginal music with absolutely no intent to do anything interesting. it's just really pathetic that their frontman is in his 30s and his lyrics are still like straight from a 14-year-old's diary but i guess that still appeals to their teenager audience
|
| |
lyrics aren't really important in music like this but they do matter if they make you cringe. also the music is so dull and everything about this band gives me the feeling that they really don't give a fuck about songwriting. all you need is a decent riff and a catchy chorus and all these tresm87's get super psyched
|
| |
it's true that i only listened to one song off this and i hated it so why should i bother with the rest? i have listened to all their previous albums and hearing that one song got me convinced that they haven't changed in any significant way
|
| |
basically yeah. it's not like i could do it on most albums but this is bfmv we're talking about. or are you implying they have changed their formula?

yea you could probably get a pretty clear picture of this album just from a couple songs
|
| |
you see, i haven't rated it because i haven't heard it. generally it would be dumb to write off the whole album judging from one or two songs but i just can already see what's wrong with the album

I agree with Artuma here.. Like I said earlier, this album is incredibly samey. One or two songs gives you more than enough considering things, which is a shame

I definitely see what you're saying, and to a point I also agree with you, but most of the time you can tell if you're gonna like an album from hearing a couple of songs.. It's the reason why bands release singles right?
I'm a bullet fan for the most part too buddy so I do definitely see where you're coming from

Yeah that can sometimes be true unfortunately, but most people will try or avoid an album because of them

I don't think every band needs to mature. They're better musicians now than they were. Their lyrics are still dumb but they were never good. They are just popular to hate. It really doesn't have much to do with their music.

"They're better musicians now than they were."
Are they?
"I don't think every band needs to mature."
Tell that to Disturbed

I believe they are, yes. And if we're talking maturity, I look at artists like Devin Townsend, Ayreon and Avantasia. Can any of these bands be said to have matured? I'd argue not. But they're very honest about what they're releasing. Something you don't have to take seriously.
If we talk stagnation, I will condemn Dream Theater before Bullet. DT say to us they are prog, but instead they transgress. There's a deception in that. Bullet offer nothing but catchy vocal hooks and riffs. Who are they trying to deceive?
Disturbed have become a parody of themselves. Maturity is not their problem.

Dream Theater are a million miles better than these guys will ever be tbh
