Not all 80s production is bad by any means, but this definitely falls into that category of production that tends to be a huge turnoff for me that seemed to be exclusive to 80s pop music.

Does is sound overproduced to you? Like too clean or something? Cause I dig that type of shit

That's part of it. Excessive reverb on everything doesn't do a lot for me either. I can't say exactly what it is, but it takes a little away for me. Still I am enjoying this in spite of it.

idk haven't heard this, but i like The Colour of Spring and don't really have problems with the production on that album despite it's still cheesy 80's Synth/Chamber pop

The production on Colour of Spring doesn't really bother me.

This has grown on me some. Really dig the post punk influences in particular.

Spirit of Eden is indeed mindblowing. Getting around to Laughing Stock. I think it's crazy that a band that had this solid of a pop album in them went on to make an album that basically created a genre that sounds so different from this stylistically.

I only like this album because there is a manatee in the music video for It's My Life.

*edit: What is wrong with my grammar and my brain?

don't get why the average for this is so low. sure it's nowhere on par with Spirit of Eden or Laughing Stock, but it's pretty much a perfectly-executed and ridiculously fun new wave album.

Some seriously great pop tunes on here. Such a Shame is a jam. So cool that these guys could write a song as insanely catchy as the t/t and also go on to redefine music.

This reviewer is ridiculous - the points brought up make absolutely no sense at all. Calling Hollis's voice "SPASTIC" (?!?) is beyond retarded - plaintive, yes....a bit nasal, I guess....totally original and awesome, definitely ! Reviewer uses the term "GAY" to describe the music on this album ? The only thing "gay" is the review. Next time I see "zebra" for a review, I'll pass....

Btw, I give it a 4/5. Some filler like "The Last Time" and "Does Caroline Know" sort of sink a bit from a perfect 5. Fav track is like many here : "Such a Shame". Lately I've got "Tomorrow Started" on the daily playlist. New Wave marked my youth.

Apart from the gay trolls here, we all think this album is great new wave music.
