Exactly RowBro
Kind of excited to see how experimental he goes on this now that he's kind of cut the ties to acoustics

definitely hasn't fully cut the ties to acoustics. deathbreast is pretty out there but yeah the rest is quite tame, as it should be, it fits the themes to a T

I'm sort of disappointed with this album and am in an idiotic denial of it - this is at about a 3.7 and lowers each listen, there aren't all that many highlights for me, I'm hoping once I dive into the concept I'll like it more. That said, if a 3.7 is a disappointment, it's not a bad one at all.
Yeah, I don't think the sound of this album is as out there as people are claiming, particularly outside of the first few tracks (or really just Deathbreast).

Thats a shame blushful, this was a pleasant surprise for me having been a bit underwhelmed by Bon Iver, Bon Iver

I was underwhelmed with Bon Iver, Bon Iver, too. Perhaps I'm just not the biggest Bon Iver fan, though, to be honest, despite how special For Emma, Forever Ago is to me. Glad to see that rating got bumped, though, man, I can see people preferring this to the self-titled, so it's good to see you're enjoying it so much.

Seems like this really isn't a place to jump on Bon Iver

@FullOfSounds, all of his releases are quite distinct from one another - though one could argue this is just a strange take on the self-titled - and all of them have been extremely well-received, so it's not a bad place to start at all. That said, there's no harm in just going in chronological order either, depends what you're looking for. Each of his albums feel like some sort of distinct, though natural progression from the last.
@guitarded, I agree, and I'm not even sure it's the songwriting that's the issue, it really is mainly "the feel", haven't thought about it too much.

I'd always recommend checking his debut first and going chronologically, just because its interesting to see how they've developed

I've heard songs from both other albums before so I already have a sense of the artistic trajectory, plus I figured it'd be interesting to hear this without the bias of the first two.

Man I wish Vernon was newly intangible to me...

It might be a bad comparison, but I think Francis and the Lights' new album is better than this. Justin Vernon's amazing on Friends.
