"If you want the world
Use your mind
Take control
Feel the strength
Rise from within
If you really want it the world is yours"
As an avid deathcore listener i know shit lyrics when i see them

I think if you take out perhaps every other metal band that exists or if you step into the shoes of someone who is not an active metal listener, this is a good metal gateway album

This is not as bad as I'd expected to be, but I don't see myself listening this frequently.
Also, there's so much cheese you can take for breakfast, lunch and dinner on this album. The ballad is laughable too.

Solid album, loving the clean singing, Alissa is so much better than Angela ever was, I actually wish they would re record the Angela stuff with Alissa on vocals. Lyrical content isn't the best, not a fan of the cheesey "the world is yours" generic rehash but in the most part the content is as fresh as can be for a melo death album, some great riffs and super catchy hooks.

Haven't checked these guys out since doomsday machine, but as this was getting a fair amount of hype i thought i'd check it out. It's a'ight, good for the occasional listen or for the gym but fail to understand how metal hammer gave this album of the month!?

^ going to that same show actually
decided to give this a listen, it's not bad at all, it's just that there aren't any standout moments. Alyssa is a pretty killer vocalist though.

These guys are pretty good live, their set was pretty long though

Great show!
Alissa had issues with her in-ear monitors for the first couple of tracks, but was still killing it on vocals. Super tight live, and their set was a good mix of their most popular older stuff and some of the better newer tracks from the past couple of records. Our group was right up front on the right (in front of Loomis, who is a maniac), and my wife ended up getting one of Sharlee's picks at the end of the show.
As a fun aside, we grabbed some food at the Thai place next door before the show, and Alissa was eating just one table away from us; we decided not to bother her, but it was cool to see her out and about just sort of randomly.

I don't know what kinda drugs zaru is snorting but Arch Enemy are one of the most creative melodic death metal bands out there. Listen to "Burning Bridges" and try to tell me otherwise... But I will agree that this album does suck hard in lots of areas. The only great aspect of this album would be the insane guitar solos.
|
| |
the only important question when it comes to arch enemy - how are the guitar solos?

Loomis has some interesting licks here and there but it's clear that Michael doesn't let him shine. He also writes pretty shit lyrics, Alissa's done much better.
