‘too long’ ‘4.5’ Hmm... haha.

Yeah this is the length of RoC as well, was shocked when I saw the run-time but it’s not off-putting, my 5s probably average 60 mins so I’m fine with 50-odd. Only thing is I’ll have to plan my assault carefully.

You're taking me out of context, and with a page break to your advantage. I hate you Demon lol

I thought the length was just fine. The duration of a disc doesn't usually matter to me if the content is strong enough to justify it. Longer albums are harder to pull off in that regard, but this held through from beginning to end.

The raw production is also a bonus in my book. Post-hardcore's gotten too clean as of late.

No issues with length here. Only commented Clavier's obs, that its not an easy listen and can be a lot to take in on first one. Woke up this morning, put play again and confirmed this slays all over.

Of course Mars, length is irrelevant (that’s not what she said), all about the context. I was trying to say that (sort of), at least in the sense that long isn’t necessarily a negative.

I gotcha. Seems like people are turning away from longer albums these days though, which is a shame. It's a consequence of a massive, basically endless market where the 'next best thing' could be right around the corner. Better to listen to 3-4 albums that are 30-40 minutes long apiece than the same amount of albums but an hour apiece.

Yeah I agree, it’s all about that immediate gratification these days.

Have you seen my 5s? (long is ok, you’ll see what I mean). I’m definitely an advocate for that sort of thing, if justified.

long albums are quite simply a bigger "risk" to take for listeners (as you've said, they generally require more justification for their length than do shorter albums), so i can't blame people for getting sceptical about, say, anything over an hour. that being said, this is quite genre-dependent - anyone going into a post- album will not be surprised at 50+ min runtimes, for example.

Honestly this album looks like a 30-40 minute album but because of the goodness in it.

That is true @clav

A grind album over 30 minutes, for instance, is like an albino buffalo.

I don’t know Mars, a couple of the best Melt-Banana albums exceed 30 mins (just)... but yeah it depends. I just didn’t want to be painted as being against longer albums when I’m clearly not (based on my ratings).

I’ll leave y’all to discuss the album anyway, until I’ve actually heard the thing.

Not at all, I've just been going off on my own tangent. Sometimes I ramble so much I forget where I begin.

Is that Daughters album from last year technically still considered grind

Definitely not. It's a continuation of their prior material, certainly, but it has definitely departed from being within the grind sphere. Only one or two tracks sound like vintage Daughters, the rest are heavily atmospheric and industrial, to me at least.

Was just curious since it’s so much longer than their previous stuff!

Woah, definitely not grind, no... I’d say it’s a little more noise rock/post-punk with maybe a touch of industrial-ish. I’m not familiar with their previous stuff though.
