There's some cool atmosphere and leads here and there but the cleans usually suck and this just isn't as interesting as it should be

"The exception being when one of these bands has sexual assault allegations against them and you feel the need to step up to bat for team rape apologist"

did you just admit to being of the mindset "guilty until proven innocent" lol

^ Agreed. Though I have come around to Absent Light more over the years, the highlights here slap mostly everything on that album

Kinda relieved I wasn't the only one that thought Karl was still doing vocals. Still solid regardless although this might be their weakest output imo.

Truly. Like that super hopeful, "we will overcome", djun dada djun and then a soaring melodic lead in the middle kind of melodic metalcore sounds less and less good to me every time I hear it, save maybe two bands. But from my admittedly not entirely reliable memory, I think the songwriting was cooler on previous records.

Either way this album feels so toothless to me. Like you play Gaza or some war metal shit like Primitive Warfare right after and it immediately feels like a soft joke.

I like this better than all of absent light save for the first two songs on that record but yeah cleans are piss poor
